Although it appears as if it is being destroyed, if there is not even the arising of the sacred meaning, where would destruction be? There is none. Since there is no such thing, there is no basis for clinging to permanence, so there is nothing to be desired. This is clearly from the perspective of ultimate truth. The meaning of mere conceptualization is suffering. Although there is nothing, clinging to the grasper and the grasped in a reversed way, merely wandering in these is suffering. Understanding this is the meaning of suffering. The meaning of selflessness is: on the other-powered nature that appears as grasper and grasped, it is only the meaning of merely imputing the grasper and the grasped as the self of person and the self of phenomena. Apart from that, there is no such thing that is established. The meaning of peace is: after knowing the nature of the perfectly established, at the time when familiarity reaches its ultimate point, it is the meaning of all conceptualizations of signs being pacified. Now, to establish the meaning of impermanence and selflessness with reasoning, first, to establish that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent. From "Because it is not permissible to arise from a cause," etc., to "Therefore, inner and outer are momentary," the ten verses have been explained. Among these, there are two divisions: the general statement that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent and the separate explanation. First, the proposition is that outer and inner conditioned phenomena are impermanent moment by moment, because it is not permissible, because it arises from a cause, etc., as determined by the word "because," and the fourteen reasons up to "because of purity and following sentient beings" have been stated. Among these, the so-called impermissible means because it is not permissible. What is not permissible? Conditioned phenomena arise from causes and conditions, and until the continuum is cut off, like the continuum of a river, the previous moment ceases and the next moment arises, continuously arising without interruption. If it is not a moment, then it is unreasonable for that thing to arise and continue for various lengths of time, or it is because it is not permissible. Some say that it is not impermissible, but that things, relying on the power of the aggregation of causes and conditions, arise in the first moment and do not cease immediately, but remain in that way until they do not encounter the cause of destruction, such as days, months, years, etc. If that is the case, the first moment can appear, but from the second moment onwards, because there is no cause, then the moment

That which arises at the very beginning will cease immediately without any continuation. Therefore, it is necessary to explain the cause that exists in the second moment, etc., and the cause of the final cessation. Because the cause that produces the first moment cannot produce such things as years, days, months, etc., which are non-momentary entities. This is because both cause and effect are momentary. For example, the continuous flow of a river is the continuous flow of new water without interruption. If the new water is interrupted, then the flow will also be interrupted. Similarly, the continuity of the flame of a lamp is also due to the cause of the wick and oil. Until the oil is exhausted, the oil is transformed into flame, and new flames are continuously produced. If the cause, the oil, is exhausted, then the effect, the flame, will also be interrupted. Just as the first moment of the flame cannot last for a while without another cause, that is, without oil. Some people think that if it is not destroyed in an instant, then it should not be destroyed in the end. This statement is similar to "initially not destroyed, ultimately not changed," although there is no conflict in meaning, it should be understood according to the previous explanation in the commentary. Others say that from birth to existence, no other cause is needed, and that the cause that produced the first moment will make it exist in that way. This view is not correct. Because the cause that produced the first moment has already ceased after producing it, it is impossible for it to continue in multiple moments. Because non-momentary things do not exist, it is like saying that the son of a barren woman was abandoned. If non-momentary things are produced by cause, does it mean that permanent things can also be produced? This is very unreasonable and not allowed. If the first moment is produced by cause, and then lasts for a while, and then destroys itself, there is no other cause, and it is thought that the initial cause did it. This view is the same. If it is thought that there is no other cause for existence and final destruction, then why not think that the first moment is also uncaused? If it is not admitted that the first moment arises without cause, because this contradicts direct perception, then the meaning of the phrase "because it is born from cause" is that after it is born in this way, its continuous existence is also established because it is born from the cause of the previous moment.
