The ground is fully entered. Compassion without object, etc., has four kinds of distinctions in terms of meaning. Because it focuses on the suchness of sentient beings and phenomena, it is called compassion without object. Because it does not focus on self and phenomena, or does not focus on outer and inner. When the eighth ground obtains forbearance of non-arising phenomena, because it obtains the pacification of conceptualization and effort, the seeds of the four immeasurables grow to completion, and it is naturally accomplished without effort and conceptual thought, so it becomes extremely pure in nature, therefore it is established as compassion without object, etc. The actions of the body and speech of loving-kindness, although arising from the common cause of loving-kindness, are established as compassion without object because they belong to the form aggregate and therefore have no conceptualization about them. Because afflictions such as desire and hatred are exhausted, the loving-kindness of the noble ones is called without object, and for afflictions, it is called the object of the mind, because it particularly focuses on the object and holds it firmly, as the sutra also says: "Because the knots of the mind are abandoned, the object is cut off." Because there is no such object, compassion and so on are also without object. Thus, relying on these four reasons, loving-kindness is without object. Third, the classification is: The four of loving-kindness, etc., have parts that later decline or decrease, called moving; the part that has abiding and special changes is called unmoving, that is, it does not decline; even if one obtains the samadhi of the four immeasurables, but because one is attached to that samadhi, tastes its flavor and holds it as satisfaction, and does not seek higher qualities, this is associated with afflictions; not tasting the flavor and not clinging to satisfaction is called immeasurable without afflictions, thus among the four classifications, the four immeasurables of the Bodhisattvas are unmoving, and they are far removed from the attachment of tasting the flavor and clinging to satisfaction, abiding in the moving and the afflicted two are not. Furthermore, in terms of the classification of that immeasurable, the four immeasurables that are not the nature of equipoise and rely on the mind of the desire realm are small. The form realm and the formless realm are called equipoise, among which the first dhyana has three abodes.

It is not so. There are three kinds of Brahma realms: Brahma Retinue, Brahma Attendants or Brahma Purohitas, and Great Brahma. In the second dhyana, there are three, such as Limited Radiance. In the third dhyana, there are three, such as Limited Virtue. In the fourth dhyana, there are three, such as Cloudless Radiance, and the five Pure Abodes, such as Non-Great, making eight in total. Among these, the four immeasurables of the Brahma Retinue are small. The four of the Brahma Attendants are medium, and the four immeasurables of the Great Brahma are large. Thus, on the ground of equipoise, the immeasurables are established as small, medium, and large. The small and medium are both gathered into small, while the large is divided into large and those two. Furthermore, the so-called inferior ground refers to the lower and lower grounds being inferior, and the immeasurables of the higher continuum being superior. Meditating on the four immeasurables of the ground of application is inferior and small, while those of the first ground are superior and large. Those of the first ground are inferior, while the four of the second ground are superior. Thus, the size is established in relation to the ground and the ground. The so-called inferior thought refers to not benefiting others, so the four immeasurables of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers are small. From the first to the seventh ground, due to the effort of conceptual thought and being accompanied by pride, they are small. Thus, non-equipoise, and the small and medium of equipoise, and the lower and lower inferior grounds, and those with inferior thought, and those accompanied by pride, all of these are small due to inferiority. Other than that, the large in the context of equipoise, and the non-inferior grounds, the higher and higher grounds, and the Bodhisattvas who are not of inferior thought, the Thus-Gone Ones, and the three pure grounds such as the eighth ground, because they do not have the effort of conceptual thought, so they are without pride, know that their four immeasurables are superior or large. The fourth is the result: In general, the result of meditating on the four immeasurables is to be born in the Form Realm, but the loving-kindness and other Brahma abodes, the wise Bodhisattvas who always abide, their minds are extremely workable and they possess inconceivable samadhi, so for the sake of sentient beings, whichever realm they wish to be born in, that is the result of maturation. The Bodhisattvas, through that immeasurable meditation, perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom, which is the dominating or lordly result. The Bodhisattvas who possess the four immeasurables.
