Although it can be called by the name "affliction," that alone does not make it an afflictive obscuration when dividing the two obscurations of afflictions and knowledge. Because even on the level of ignorance and habitual tendencies, it is referred to by the name "affliction," and generally, the name "affliction" is applied to all delusions and inverted conceptualizations. If all of these were afflictive obscurations, then the obscuration of knowledge would completely disappear. Therefore, those afflictions that mainly exist as obstacles to liberation, arising from the view of the aggregates as a real self, are called afflictive obscurations; and those afflictions that mainly exist as obstacles to omniscience, arising from the conceptualization of the three spheres, are called obscurations of knowledge. The second part includes: refuting the view that the "self" is substantially existent, and explaining that the "self" is merely a designation dependent on conditions. The first part includes: refuting the view that the "self" is different from the aggregates, refuting the view that the "self" is the same as the aggregates, and refuting the view that the "self" is neither the same nor different from the aggregates, and cannot be described in any way. The first part includes: stating the former's view, and refuting that view. First, the Samkhya school believes that all knowable things are the twenty-five principles, they say: "The root nature does not transform, the seven, such as the Great One, transform in nature, the sixteen are transformations, the Purusha is neither nature nor transformation." They say that the particles of the Pradhana have the nature of movement and entry. Darkness is heavy and obscuring, and courage is clear and bright. The state in which these three are in equilibrium, not leaning towards any side, is the Pradhana, the root of all things. It is the nature of all things, and does not change. From that nature arises the Great One, the Great One is two names for intelligence. Both the external objects and the image of the inner Purusha appear, and the Purusha uses it as a basis to connect with the objects. From the Great One arises ego, and there are three types of ego: transformative, courageous, and dark. From the first arises the five subtle elements, such as form. From the five subtle elements arise the five great elements, the establishment of the five great elements is based on each of the subtle elements, as well as two or more. From the courageous ego arise the five sense faculties, such as the eyes, as well as speech, hands, feet, buttocks, genitals, the five action faculties, and the five physical faculties, and the mind, which has the nature of both, that is how it is.
