Refutation. Refuting the arising of things from other substances. The first point is: For the nature of the substances of fruits, that is, the four conditions and so on that transform from themselves into others, the word "and so on" includes all the conditions asserted by non-Buddhists, the collection of these conditions or each individual condition, do not exist prior to their own arising. If they existed, they would either be cognizable or the arising would become meaningless. Thus, if the fruit does not exist as its own substance, then the other substances such as conditions that depend on it also do not exist, just as there is no son on a mountain without a father. If loving-kindness is hidden, even if being mutually different can be regarded as other and other, the cause and effect are never equal, so it is unreasonable to say that it arises from others. The second point is: Again, some say that the eye and form, etc., do not actually produce eye consciousness, etc., but rather the action itself of producing eye consciousness, etc., is the condition, thinking that the action itself actually produces eye consciousness, etc. Then, is the action associated with conditions, or is it not associated? It is unreasonable to examine it in either case. If it is like the first case, the action itself does not exist, so it is impossible to be associated with conditions, just like saying that a barren woman's son has a cow. Why? If the action does not exist, then consciousness has already arisen, and the action is not associated. If the action is the cause of the establishment of things, then it is not needed for things that have already been established, because things that have already arisen will not arise again. It is also not established for things that have not arisen, because this arising has no agent and is not the essence of reason. Just as it is said. It is also impossible for things that are arising, because there is actually no such thing as something that is arising other than what has already arisen and what has not arisen. Just as it is said: "Without difference, there is no differentiated thing." Then, it will become not associated with conditions. If you think so, then the action of producing a fruit that is not associated with conditions, this action itself never exists separately. If it exists, then the action of sprouts arising would also occur from things that are not conditions, such as fire and coal, or the action would become causeless, so the action itself is impossible. Just as there is no cloth without thread. If the action is unreasonable in this way, then would the conditions themselves become the producers of things? If so

If there is no action, then not possessing action is not a condition for producing things, because it is separate from the action of producing things. If there is a condition possessing action, even if it is allowed to produce, it has already been explained that it does not exist. In short, action and condition possessing or not possessing, condition and action possessing or not possessing, none of these four situations are reasonable. Because, the two that do not possess each other cannot become conditions. The two that possess each other do not need conditions whether the result exists or not, so it is unreasonable, thus refuting. This will be explained in detail below. Second, refuting the way of establishing conditions. However, why is it necessary to have such a detailed analysis of possessing action and not possessing action, etc.? Because relying on these such as eyes, eye consciousness, etc. are produced. Therefore, these such as eyes are called conditions, this is the previous view. If this is the case, then if we examine the cause, as long as eye consciousness, etc. are not produced, how can these such as eyes not be its condition? It must be considered a condition, if it is established as a condition depending on the production of consciousness, then this is the same as the non-condition at the time of non-production. If this is the case, like squeezing oil from sand, a non-condition cannot become a condition. If it is thought that the previous non-condition later becomes a condition through other conditions, then the same refutation can be made for the later condition. Third, refuting production by examining existence or non-existence. If we examine the result, does it produce a non-existent result? Or does it produce an existent result? If we examine the two situations of non-existence and existence, the condition is unreasonable in both cases, why? If it does not exist, then to whom does it become a condition? Because there is no thing that has a condition. If it exists, what does the condition do? Because it has already been established. Fourth, refuting the definitions of each of the four conditions, first refuting the causal condition. To this, people of our own school say: The causal condition exists, if it does not exist, it is like the son of a barren woman having no characteristics to show. The causal condition has a definition, because the Blessed One said "The one who accomplishes is the cause," so the definition of the causal condition can be established. If you say so, this is also a common saying in the world, if you examine it in this way with reason, it is unreasonable. If the dharma to be accomplished is established, then the accomplisher should also be established. Whenever the dharma to be accomplished
