If someone says, it does not change, just as a lamp has the nature of illuminating, it can illuminate both itself and others, such as vases, at the same time. Similarly, birth also has the nature of birth, so it can produce both itself and other things. Answer: The second situation is divided into two: the metaphor is not established and the reason is unreasonable. The first situation is further divided into two: the pervasiveness is not determined and the fault of being too absolute. The first is: the lamp itself and where the lamp is located, where the light pervades, if there is no darkness at all, then what can the lamp illuminate? It is precisely because the lamp can dispel darkness that it is considered an illuminator. If we examine whether the lamp dispels darkness, it may not be reasonable, but the lamp must dispel darkness, if not, like vases, etc., even if there is a lamp, it is not necessary to dispel darkness, which is impossible. If you think that the lamp dispels darkness while it is being produced, then these two can never exist together, for example, the darkness between continents and the light of the sun, or yesterday's darkness and tonight's lamplight. When the lamp is produced, it does not encounter darkness, because when the lamp is not produced, although there is darkness, it disappears after it is produced, and when there is darkness, there is no lamp, so how can the lamp dispel darkness while it is being produced? It is not like that. Even if the lamp does not encounter darkness, if it can dispel darkness, then all the darkness that exists all over the world will be dispelled by this single lamp that exists here, which is too much. Also, just as wisdom can destroy ignorance without touching it, the eye can see objects without touching them, and the magnet can attract distant iron in a suitable place, if you think that darkness can be dispelled without touching it, then these arguments are the same as the object to be argued, so they cannot be used to argue. The second is: if you think that the lamp is an illuminator, so it can illuminate itself and other things, then darkness will undoubtedly obscure darkness itself and other things such as vases, because it has the nature of obscuring. If you admit this, then darkness will not appear, which is too much. Second, the reason is unreasonable, divided into two: refuting from the perspective of cause and refuting from the perspective of effect. The first is further divided into two: self-generation is unreasonable and other-generation is unreasonable. The first.

O! If birth itself produces itself, then examine whether it is produced by something unborn or something born. This birth, because it is itself unborn, how can it produce its own nature? It is like a flower in the sky producing itself. If you say that it produces itself because it is already born, then if it is already born, what is there to produce? There is nothing to produce. Secondly, there are two divisions: analyzing in the three times, and analyzing whether birth has other births. First, there are two divisions: generally refuting birth, and specifically refuting the birth that is in the process of occurring. First: If this birth produces others, then that which is already born, or not yet born, or in the process of being born, cannot produce in any way. This reasoning is explained by the logic of the gone, not gone, and going. For the time being, what is already born does not give rise, and what is not yet born can be transformed. Second: Someone says, "The born and the unborn do not give rise, but only what is in the process of being born gives rise." If what is in the process of being born can be established, then it can give rise, but it cannot be established. When the thing called birth exists, then what is in the process of being born can arise, but when birth itself is examined and found to be non-existent, how can one say that what is in the process of being born, which is established in dependence on birth, exists? This is unreasonable. Again, someone says, "The Victorious One (Buddha) said, 'This existing, that arises,' and proclaimed dependent origination. You have denied birth as never existing, so you have denied dependent origination." This is not denying dependent origination, but clarifying the profound meaning of dependent origination. For birth and so on that are established by their own nature, dependent origination is not possible, because it arises from dependence, so it is established as peaceful. As it is said: Any dharma that arises in dependence on conditions is by nature unborn or of a nature that is unestablished and peaceful. Therefore, what is in the process of being born, as well as birth, are the peaceful cessation of the elaboration of selflessness, and dependent origination is not possible for what is established by its own nature. Again, someone thinks that what is in the process of being born exists, because the future pot comes into being through birth. This is impossible, if it is said that there exists an unborn thing, whether in any place or future time, etc.
