Translated. Therefore, the Blessed One does not truly see what is desired, what is desired for, what causes desire, what is hated, what is hated for, what causes hatred, what is deluded, what is deluded for, and what causes delusion, and that dharma is unattainable. Thus and so on was spoken. The second chapter is named: Examination of Desire and Attachment, which is the sixth chapter. The seventh chapter is the chapter on the examination of conditioned phenomena. Sutra connection: When conditioned and unconditioned, and black and white dharmas, are destroyed by wisdom, not even a mote of dust is found. Such is the meaning. Chapter connection: Conditioned exists because it shows the three of arising, abiding, and ceasing. If asked: To show its non-existence, there are the treatise and the title. The first has three: refuting the conditioned, refuting the unconditioned, and avoiding contradiction with the scriptures. The first has two: detailed explanation and summary. The first has two: general refutation and specific refutation. The first has three: examining the conditioned and unconditioned, examining each and combination, and examining whether there are other characteristics to refute. The first is: These aggregates, realms, and sources have the nature of conditioned phenomena, because they have the characteristics of conditioned phenomena such as arising, etc. Moreover, the Blessed One also said: Monks, these three are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, the arising of conditioned phenomena is also manifest, the ceasing is also manifest, and the change from abiding is also manifest. Therefore, arising and so on, like rabbit horns, are impossible for non-existent things. If asked: If the characteristic called arising is conditioned or unconditioned? If arising is called conditioned, then it also has the three characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing, because if it is conditioned, it must have the three characteristics that represent it. If so, it becomes the basis of the characteristic. If arising is unconditioned, how can it be the characteristic of conditioned phenomena? It is not, like space. Similarly, abiding and so on should also be applied. The second is: Again, if arising and so on are considered to be the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, then are arising and so on individual characteristics? Or which is the combined characteristic? Whichever of the two

It is unreasonable because it is impossible for each of the three, such as arising, to be the nature of conditioned phenomena separately, because the other two do not exist at its own time, so it is separated from abiding and ceasing, or separated from arising and ceasing, etc. It is also impossible for these three to gather simultaneously in one moment on one thing, because they contradict each other like light and darkness, so how is it possible? It is impossible. Third, examining whether there is another nature or not and refuting it, there are two: refuting by being too extreme, refuting the answer of exemption. First, if arising is a conditioned phenomenon, then it will have three natures, if you admit this, what is unreasonable? If it is thought that the nature of conditioned phenomena, arising, abiding, ceasing, etc., also have other natures such as arising, which are the nature of conditioned phenomena, then that nature must also have other natures, so it will be endless, and if so, the root nature will not be established. If arising, etc., do not have other natures, then they are separated from the nature of conditioned phenomena, so they are not conditioned phenomena. The second has two: refuting the first answer of exemption, refuting the second answer. First, many venerators, etc., say that when a virtue or affliction dharma arises, fifteen arise, namely the dharma itself as the basis, and its nature arising, abiding, staying, aging, impermanence five, if that dharma is an affliction, then the affliction itself, and its reversed liberation seven, similarly, if it is a virtue, then the virtue itself, and its correct liberation seven, if it is renunciation, then the renunciation itself, and its renunciation seven, if it is not renunciation, then the non-renunciation itself, and its non-renunciation itself seven, these are all the retinues of the conditioned phenomenon as the basis, and the arising of arising, etc., seven are the retinues of the retinues, and are the fifteen of the main retinue, this is also because the nature arising, etc., and the conforming natures establish each other. Like this, the conditioned phenomenon itself as the basis, and the nature arising, etc., seven and the conforming nature arising of arising, etc., seven, there are fifteen in total, among which, the arising of arising only produces the root arising.
