Even a deity, if a practitioner kills with the intention to kill, will incur the great sin of falling into lower realms. Secondly, if a disciplined person thinks of killing other sentient beings, generates the intention to kill, and throws stones etc. with the body, or commands to kill etc. with speech, even if that person does not die but remains alive, then, three kinds of misconduct of mind, body, and speech will occur. Without the intention to kill, but with an angry mind repeatedly striking other sentient beings with stones, sticks, fists, etc., or clapping hands, whipping, throwing them into hot places when it's hot, cold places when it's cold, and other harms, and the harms of loading and beating horses, cattle, etc., should not be done. A practitioner should not ride horses, oxen, etc.; riding and going is not allowed. Secondly, regarding the defeat of taking what is not given, there are three: the actual statement of defeat, the indication of wrongdoing, and the enumeration of the basis of these—the types of enjoyment. First, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Bamboo Grove Monastery in Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir). At that time, a monk named Dhanamitra, who was previously a potter, had built a hut in the monastery of Rajagriha and was living there. When he went to the town for alms, cowherds and others demolished his hut and took away the grass and wood. After building and demolishing it many times, he thought, 'This is troublesome!' and built a beautiful red clay hut. At that time, the Blessed One saw it with his divine eye and asked, 'Whose is this?' They replied, 'It belongs to Dhanamitra.' The Blessed One said, 'Because of this, the heretics will mock me. Demolish it!' So the monks demolished it. Then Dhanamitra thought again, 'I am friendly with the officer of the forest guard of Rajagriha, I will build a wooden house!' So he said to the forest guard, 'Please give me some wood.' The forest guard said, 'If you offer wood, use it as you please!' At that time, because of repairing the dilapidated parts of Rajagriha, many trees were felled and cut down. The city guard saw him cutting and carrying the wood and told King Ajatashatru. Ajatashatru summoned Dhanamitra and asked, 'Is it permissible for you to take wood without permission?'
