Moreover, those with sharp faculties can attain the bardo solely through Guru Yoga. The key instruction for that is: From the Vajra Mirror: "Vajrasattva is the main deity of the mandala; the Guru is equal to all Buddhas." Also, from the Four Seats: "The Guru is the Buddha, the Guru is the Dharma; likewise, the Guru is the Sangha." As it is said, the root Guru is the embodiment of all Buddhas of the ten directions and three times. Just as that is the case, he is also the embodiment of the Dharma and Sangha, therefore, he is the nature of the total gathering of all objects of refuge, the single king who cuts through all understanding with one stroke. Having firmly decided on that, entrust whatever you do to him, and supplicate with intense devotion of reliance and longing. Furthermore, since all these illusory appearances of the bardo are merely appearances of one's own mind, and since one's own mind can be transformed into anything, think, "I shall transform them into pure appearances." View all forms as the mandala of the Guru's body, never tiring of looking. Appearances arise as form, but grasping does not arise as form, like reflections in a mirror, remaining clear, empty, and free from attachment. All sounds that arise are the Guru's speech, the sound of the sacred Dharma that dispels the decline of samsara and nirvana, resounding emptily and indestructibly. Let all thoughts and awareness be the Guru's mind, the spontaneously arising wisdom of emptiness and clarity, beyond thought and conception, in the state of the Dharmakaya, primordial purity, nakedly, clearly, and openly. By that, the three impure doors of karma are naturally liberated into the sphere of one's own innate body, speech, and mind, attaining Buddhahood inseparable from the Guru's three vajras. Furthermore, for those with sharp faculties, the method of training in the bardo through the profound path of generation and completion is: If one does not see the Guru as the actual Buddha, one cannot attain the bardo through devotion to the Guru alone. Therefore, one must train through the door of the profound completion stage. This illusory bardo body, made up of only wind and mind, is either held in its entirety or subsequently decomposed by either of the two meditations, merging into luminosity, thereby realizing the ultimate truth, and arising as the deity body of union. Having sent forth that aspiration beforehand, focus intently on one's own body appearing as the deity body, like an illusion, without distraction, gradually dissolving into the sphere, remaining in equanimity in the state of non-elaboration, which is holding in its entirety.

Having recognized all appearances of oneself and the environment as illusory, one gazes intently at the external appearances, causing all appearances of the environment and its inhabitants to dissolve into the expanse. Then, one gazes intently at one's own body, causing it also to dissolve into the expanse, and rests without artifice in a state of non-thought and freedom from elaboration. This is the meditation of subsequent dissolution. Thus, through these two meditations, one places the intermediate state body and all appearances into the expanse of clear light, non-conceptual awareness, and repeatedly familiarizes oneself with it. Through the fire of clear light that completely purifies the three appearances, one purifies the illusory body of the intermediate state. Taking previous karma as the cause, subsequent mindfulness as the support, and samadhi as the connection, from the three appearances of reversion and the winds of wisdom, the body of union arises like a fish leaping from water, and is purified by clear light. If one cannot manifest clear light, then all appearances of the intermediate state are self-appearances. Since all self-appearances are unreal, illusory, and like dreams, one should transform them into pure appearances at this time. Think thus: all external environments are pure lands and celestial mansions, all internal sentient beings are the bodies of the noble, great compassionate Avalokiteśvara, and one's own body is also the body of a deity, complete with all the major and minor marks. Appearances are without inherent existence, clear yet without conceptualization, blissful yet without attachment, spontaneously arising as the embodiment of the dharmakaya, the form of the sambhogakaya, and the unceasing activity of the nirmanakaya, the great bliss body. All sounds are the indestructible sound of the mantra of dharmata, resounding clearly. Know that all thoughts and memories are the unceasing play of the primordially pure dharmakaya's own sound. In that state, rest naturally in equipoise. Thus, the three impure appearances, sounds, and movements will be liberated into the space of deity, mantra, and wisdom. Furthermore, if one is not familiar with clear light and the deity's body, and thus does not master the intermediate state, one becomes a person of middling faculties. Therefore, it is crucial to practice the transference of consciousness in the intermediate state without error. At the moment when one thinks, "I am dead," one should not have fear or dread of the intermediate state. Alas! Taking rebirth through attachment and aversion is extremely painful. Now, I shall go to the pure land of great bliss. Think thus, and recognize all appearances of the intermediate state as unreal and illusory.
