Therefore, all sinful and non-virtuous actions should be abandoned like food mixed with poison, because they are the creators of suffering for oneself. Moreover, it is crucial to transform the unspecified into virtuous actions. If that virtue is seized by the realization of no self-nature, it is called uncontaminated virtue or virtue in accordance with liberation, because it becomes the cause of sacred liberation. Just as when crops are abundant, the roots are naturally nourished, all temporary happiness and fruits will naturally follow, so one should strive to cultivate it. Other than that, contaminated virtue that is not related to the path of liberation is called merit-part virtue, which can only bring temporary samsaric happiness and wealth, and will eventually be exhausted, just like a dream after each sleep, which is meaningless. Why? Because Brahma and Indra, the universal monarchs, are like butterflies blown by the wind, after death they do not know where to go, there is no destination, the joys and sorrows, victories and defeats of samsara, like dreams or water buckets, alternate in turn, cannot be controlled by one person forever, and cannot be trusted. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "Indra, who was worshiped by the world, also fell to the earth due to karma. The universal monarch who ruled the four directions also became a servant in samsara." And as it is said in the same text: "Even the great pleasures of the heavenly realm, Brahma also fell back after obtaining the joy of detachment, becoming firewood for the fire of Avici hell, constantly enduring uninterrupted suffering." Thus it is said. Furthermore, if one is born in the three lower realms due to the three non-virtuous actions (great, medium, and small) with contamination, then there is no need to mention the suffering of experiencing those sufferings. Even just seeing or hearing those scenes, one would feel palpitations due to extreme pain, which is unbearable. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "Just seeing, hearing, remembering, reading, or drawing pictures of the scenes of hell, it is still frightening, let alone personally experiencing the unbearable ripening results?" Thus it is said. So, is it enough to be born in the heavens? It is not enough. Although it is called the heavens in relation to the three lower realms, just as whether the flame is large or small, it cannot be separated from heat, in those places, generally speaking, even humans have the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death, while the Asuras have fighting.

There is suffering, the suffering of gods dying and falling. In the two upper realms, although suffering does not manifest for a while, the nature of pervasive suffering exists, and after the exhaustion of each person's past karma, they must constantly endure the suffering of the three lower realms and so on. Therefore, no matter where one is born in the high or low of the three realms of samsara, one cannot transcend the nature of suffering. Wherever one is born, it is a place of suffering; whoever one befriends, it is a friend of suffering; whatever one enjoys, one cannot transcend the enjoyment of suffering. In the Uttaratantra, it says: "Just as there is no fragrance in impure hair, there is no happiness in the five realms. Its suffering is always like fire, weapons, salt, and so on, born from touch." As it is said. Therefore, the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the pervasive suffering of conditioning torment us constantly. For example, like a patient suffering from constant pain, or like a criminal escaping from prison, wanting to be liberated from the suffering of samsara, one must have genuine renunciation and deep aversion. Second, the common foundation of both Hinayana and Mahayana is taking refuge. What can protect us from such terrible suffering of samsara is only the Three Jewels, and nothing else. Because Indra and Brahma, etc., the Chakravartin kings, can only give temporary happiness, not the ultimate refuge. Why? Just as prisoners in prison cannot save each other, because they themselves are in samsara. Therefore, one must take refuge only in the Three Jewels. Among them, from the perspective of Hinayana, the Three Jewels are established on cessation and the path. The Abhidharmakosha says: "Whoever takes refuge in the three, the Buddha and the Sangha practice, the non-learner and both, and Nirvana as refuge." As it is said. From the perspective of Mahayana, it must be established on the Buddha who possesses the nature of Dharmakaya. Maitreya Bodhisattva said: "The only protector is the Buddha, because the Muni possesses Dharmakaya." Furthermore, the Two Examinations Tantra says: "Real and unreal, the nature is the master, constant and
