Make a slight clarification and make it clear. Do not be too tense, but look at the clear deity image and practice without distraction. If it is still difficult to settle, place a deity image in front of you, or any object, large or small, such as letters, implements, pebbles, or twigs, as a support for your attention. Without moving your eyes or blinking your eyelids, gaze into space. Do not think of anything good or bad, subtle differences, etc., in your mind, Just let go. In this state, no matter what kind of conceptual thoughts arise, do not shorten them, but return to the support, do not meditate on anything, do not be distracted from the self-nature of non-thought, recognize it, and naturally practice it is very important. If you are drowsy, you should praise the gaze, adjust your posture, raise awareness, raise your spirits, and look with one-pointed attention. If you are distracted and agitated, you should belittle the gaze, relax your posture, relax from the depths of your heart, and settle naturally. Similarly, for loud sounds, fragrant smells, etc., and the natural in and out of breath, you can recite the three-syllable Vajra mantra at the three places (forehead, throat, heart), or in a state of no object of focus, slightly relax your awareness, etc., any of these methods is fine. By practicing in this way, at first it will seem that conceptual thoughts increase, but do not regard it as good or bad, continue to practice, and conceptual thoughts will gradually subside. The body and mind will feel comfortable, the complexion will be radiant, the words will be reduced, the words will be gentle, the mind will be focused on the state of non-thought, unable to get up from it, and even if you want to move, you will be bound, and you will naturally tend to calm and reach a state of concentration. It is said that this is a sign of proficiency in the practice of calm abiding. Second, there are also two ways to generate insight. First, to determine the external object of focus as being without substance, like space. Just like this, the phenomena of samsara and nirvana that are attached to appearance, apart from appearing in one's own mind, there is not even a particle that is truly established elsewhere. Appearance is just appearance, not real is not real. This is like a magical illusion wheel, or the appearance of a dream. Although it does not exist, the appearance is vague, just a general idea. Moreover, this is just an illusion, its nature transcends the realm of creation of existence and non-existence, so in reality, even clinging to illusion is unattainable, and this must be determined. No matter what external appearance arises, one must gaze at its essence.

Therefore, while the field of appearance is uninterrupted, let the clear emptiness, free from the defilement of clinging to objects, the ungrasping, like the naked awareness of the sky, appear purely. Do not make any adjustments, but allow it to rest in its natural state. Second, to eradicate the root of the inner clinging mind: Similarly, turn your attention inward. Your mind will generate all kinds of thoughts and discriminations. First, where does it come from? Where does it reside now? Where does it ultimately go? What is its shape? What is its color? Without a moment's distraction, like chasing an arrow, let awareness focus on pursuing. If you say you have not seen the mind, then look at what the suddenly arising thought is like. Who is the one who is looking? Are the one who is looking and what is being looked at the same or different? Inquire in this way. If you say it is unreal, then like dust carried away by the wind, is it empty, or is it vague and dim? If you say it is real, then what is its shape, square, lunar, round, or triangular? What color is it, white, yellow, red, green, blue, etc.? Observe carefully. Thus, observe the three times of arising, abiding, and ceasing, and what the shape and color, etc., are like. As a result, nothing is seen, neither what is seen nor who is seeing, neither what is perceived nor who is perceiving. Searching and observing, nothing is found anywhere. In this state, in the sky where there is nothing to recognize or judge, empty and vague, yet peaceful. The matter is finished, and the method is exhausted. It is said that this is a naked awareness free from all actions. Like resting, relax and abide in the natural state. When abiding in this way, there are no thoughts, but awareness is uninterrupted, and all appearances are in a state of non-grasping and vastness, naturally relaxing and abiding in a dazed state. Second, practice the union of calm and insight: No matter what kind of external and internal objects of grasping and being grasped appear, it is the same. By focusing on what appears, its essence is not established, but it appears in various forms. For example, when the reflection of the moon appears in a pond, the essence of the water and the reflection of the moon are not different. The appearance on that side is uninterrupted, and on this side it is not defiled by clinging. Appearance and mind are non-dual, and a naked awareness clearly appears.
