also became free. Second, regarding the common and uncommon preliminaries, there are three states to establish: distinguishing between samsara and nirvana, the preliminary practices of the three doors, and bringing them to maturity. The first part is about the teachings on distinguishing between samsara and nirvana, and how to distinguish them. First, it is said in the *Illusion Sutra*: "If samsara and nirvana are not distinguished, the three realms of body, speech, and mind, the connection will not be severed, therefore, samsara and nirvana must be distinguished." This explains that the nature of beings' body, speech, and mind is inherently self-purified, but temporarily obscured by sudden illusions, from beginningless time until now, continuously revolving in the six realms, the bodily changes, verbal expressions, mental speculations, and ways of experiencing suffering of each of the six realms, doing countless meaningless things. Now, still clinging to and craving unfinished karma, what else can be done? Therefore, now samsara and nirvana must be distinguished, and from now on, the root of rebirth in samsara must be severed. So, how to distinguish them? By taking what is similar to the karmic appearances and forms of samsara as the path, thereby recognizing the faults of bad karma, and from now on, being liberated from clinging. In the common mantra, it is also said: "With discrimination, counteract discrimination, with existence itself, counteract existence. Just as water enters the ear, it must be drawn out with water. Similarly, the discrimination of things must also be purified by certainty." This is consistent with the above points. The second part is divided into two: outer and inner. First, the outer method of distinguishing is: In the *After-Death Sutra*, it says: "For the preliminary practice of the body, practice various behaviors of the six realms, and also practice the behaviors of the Three Jewels." As it says in the sutra, go to a secluded place such as a mountainside or empty valley where people do not come and go, offer a torma to the local deities, and then think: Now, for the benefit of sentient beings, I will distinguish between samsara and nirvana, and from now on, I will not return to samsara. Thinking of the heat and cold of hell, the hunger and thirst of pretas, the servitude of animals, the birth, old age, sickness, and death of humans, the fighting of asuras, the fall of gods, and other sufferings and joys of the six realms, experience them with your own mind, and the body jumps

All kinds of postures such as running and walking should be made. The sounds of speech should be uttered in various ways, and these should be used continuously without interruption, until fatigue and exhaustion occur. Then, look at the self-nature of post-cognition and rest. Again, the body should make the postures of the peaceful and wrathful deities of the Sugata, the speech should be the sound of mantra, and the mind should clearly visualize these forms and hold them as much as possible, thereby maintaining the self-nature of post-cognition. By doing this, the body will not feel cold, hunger, thirst, attachment, or clinging, and there will be no negation or affirmation. The mind will arise with the wisdom born of meditation on the meaning of the words of the guru's instructions, and the experience of clear emptiness, unobstructed bliss will arise spontaneously. Practice until these arise. The necessity of these is to purify the sins of body, speech, and mind, pacify obstacles, transform clinging, and thereby attain the Vajra body, speech, and mind. In the root text, it is said that the distinctions of body, speech, and mind should be made separately, and the preliminaries of the three doors should be performed alternately. However, considering that if the distinctions are divided into three parts, the practice will be more essential and concentrated, the lamas have adopted the practice just mentioned. Second, regarding the internal distinction, there is the teaching of distinction and the manner of distinction. The first point, in the "Clear Space," it says: "In order to exhaust the cause of internal delusion, distinguish samsara and nirvana internally." Therefore, by distinguishing externally, although the appearance of external delusion will disappear, if the cause and seed of internal delusion are not exhausted, then due to the driving force of afflictions such as hatred, unwholesome habits will be left in their respective seeds, thereby awakening their power, leading to the inability to cut off the karmic cycle of the six realms. Therefore, in order to cut off these, internal distinction is necessary. The second point, in "After Death," it says: "This body is born from the cause of ignorance, the seeds of the six realms reside within it. Awareness is the reality of the three bodies, the seed syllables of the three bodies naturally arise. By practicing these seed syllables, one can make distinctions." Regarding the manner of the existence of seeds, in the "Clear Space," it says: "In the crown, throat, heart, navel, secret place, and soles of the feet, A, Su, Na, Ri, Tri, Pre reside." Therefore, for beings who need to be tamed, in the six places of the body, the objects to be tamed are: in the crown, there is the seed syllable A (ཨ,梵文:अ,罗马:a,汉语:阿,white) of the gods, in the throat, there is the seed syllable Su (སུ,梵文天城体:सु,梵文罗马拟音:su,汉语字面意思:苏,yellow-green) of the Asuras, in the heart, there is the seed syllable of humans
