Since it transforms into greatness, in order to eliminate its unfavorable aspects and cultivate favorable ones, it is crucial to first reverse attachment to this life. By contemplating the impermanence of life and the faults of being born into lower realms after death, one abandons the mind that craves the perfections of existence, because one recognizes all the faults of samsara, and thus directs the mind towards liberation. After that, one must also abandon the mind that seeks peace and happiness for oneself, and gradually train in cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment, because this is the common path of the Great Vehicle. However, due to the different practices and guiding methods of various lamas, some start from meditating on impermanence, summarizing it into three aspects as directly taught in the scriptures; others start from the difficulty of finding leisure and endowment, etc. Although there are these differences, the key point of the meaning is the same. That is, meditating on impermanence is the foundation, and by meditating on impermanence, one can recognize the faults of samsara, and by recognizing the faults of samsara, one can become proficient in adopting and abandoning cause and effect. From these causes, refuge and genuine bodhicitta will arise. Therefore, for beginners, if guided in this way, one can clearly understand the order of the path, and it is in accordance with the universality of the Great Vehicle's guiding methods, and it will not deviate from the fundamental intention, so it is also very good. If done in this way, one can obtain consistent content from other guiding texts, or one can also understand it from the separately arranged general preliminary teachings. Second, there are six aspects to the method of meditating on the specific stages. First, the preliminary practice of a session: In a quiet place, straighten the body on a comfortable cushion and relax the mind. The key point of speech is to exhale three breaths, visualizing that all diseases, evil spirits, sins, and obscurations are purified. The key point of mind is, for the benefit of all sentient beings, I will practice the profound path, thinking in this way, visualize the guru above the crown of the head, with boundless devotion, pray to the kind root guru who is the embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times. Grant blessings to my being! Thus, pray single-mindedly for what is desired. This is to be done at the beginning of all sessions, although it is not included in the scriptures, it is the practice of the lamas. Second, the method of meditating on impermanence: That is, we from beginningless time

Up to now, in general, we have experienced the unimaginable suffering of samsara, especially the three lower realms. However, it is still difficult to fully realize the end of suffering. Therefore, now that we have obtained the human body with the eighteen qualities of leisure and endowment, which is extremely rare to find, and if found, we have obtained a special basis of great significance, we must accomplish our ultimate aspiration. Do not postpone it due to laziness, thinking of doing it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Even if we obtain a human body, it is impermanent and quickly decays. There is no doubt that death is inevitable, which is obvious. We do not know when we will die, and death will come suddenly. The evil causes and obstacles of death will not allow anyone to escape death. The only thing that benefits death is the sacred Dharma. Therefore, no matter the houses we build, the wealth we accumulate, the close relatives and friends, etc., we cannot avoid it, and we must leave alone with our karma. Therefore, just as the external seasonal changes, spring, summer, autumn, and winter, the years, months, days, and even food, are constantly changing impermanently in an instant, we ourselves are also getting closer to death and are certain to die. The changes in internal sentient beings, we also see and hear countless deaths of enemies, friends, and neutral people, and thus we are certain that we do not know when we will die. The secret lies in recalling that from birth until now, the changes in our body, the thoughts in our mind, our actions, and all our behaviors are changing impermanently in every moment. As it is said in the Extensive Play Sutra: "The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds, this body that is taken will decay and separate, the four seasons are impermanent, changing and without essence, aging and decaying are the nature of death, even for a moment or an instant there is no permanence, the life of beings is like a waterfall flowing down a cliff." Thinking about these reasons, we do not know which will come first, the things of tomorrow or the next life. Therefore, now that we have autonomy, we must not delay and must strive to practice the Dharma. As Nagarjuna said: "If a fire suddenly breaks out on your head or clothes, you should abandon all other tasks to extinguish it. Likewise, you should strive to prevent rebirth, for there is nothing more important than this." Like this, all the perfections of this life are like the pleasure of a dream in a single sleep.
