Whatever arises, immediately recognize it with mindfulness, firmly grasp it, and focus on observing the self-nature of what arises. Do not reject its appearance, do not have special attachments, maintain a natural state, and in this way, you can be liberated in non-attachment. Second, the self-liberation of the five gates: Similarly, for the attachments that arise in the five senses such as the eyes, focus on observing their self-nature, maintain a natural state, and you can be liberated in non-attachment as before. Third, the self-liberation of the six consciousnesses: For the pleasant or unpleasant forms seen by the eyes, the pleasant or unpleasant sounds heard by the ears, the fragrant or unpleasant smells smelled by the nose, the sweet or unsweet tastes tasted by the tongue, the soft or rough sensations touched by the body, and the objects of the mind, in short, all kinds of large and small thoughts, represented by thoughts of happiness or unhappiness, whether they are virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral, whatever arises, focus on observing its self-nature. Eventually, the power of the thoughts will be exhausted, unable to continue, and they will naturally subside. By abiding in this state, you can maintain awareness, keep virtuous actions away from obstacles, and proceed smoothly. This is what I heard from the teachings of the holy ones. The above is about the instructions of Trekchö. Second, to study the Tögal path, which directly reveals the spontaneously accomplished wisdom. This is superior to the previous methods in seven ways. What are the seven? The superiority of the appearance of light, the superiority of integrating practice into actual conduct, the superiority of directly cutting into self-nature, the superiority of the body's essential channels, the superiority of the senses of seeing, the superiority of self-awareness, and the superiority of the increase of practice. These seven superiorities surpass other methods. In order to actually practice the instructions that possess these superiorities, first, you must practice the common and uncommon preliminaries. The common preliminary refers to the fact that after diligent practice, you must obtain a firm understanding of the special Trekchö practice. These practice methods have already been explained earlier. Next is the specific method of abandoning worldly affairs in nine ways. As it says in 'After Death': 'Abandon all internal and external affairs.' And as it says in 'Clear Space': 'In order to directly point to the essential point, with body, speech, and mind, abandon all internal and external secret affairs.' Therefore, in terms of the body, abandon all illusions and distractions of the external world.

Wood. Internally, prostrations and circumambulations, and other minor virtuous deeds, as well as secret distractions and movements, should be abandoned, and one should abide alone. In terms of speech, external worldly chatter or various talks, internal recitations and repetitions, etc., all secret speech and words should be abandoned and one should abide. In terms of mind, all external worldly distractions and thoughts, internal generation and completion stage mind-holdings, various secret distractions of thoughts should all be abandoned, and one should abide in non-conceptuality. Secondly, there are three key points to directly bringing the uncontaminated wisdom into oneself. As it says in the Prasangika: "With the key of direct perception, body, speech, and mind, each of their keys should be well-adjusted." That is, in terms of the body, one should not interrupt the Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and Nirmanakaya. As it says in the Longsal: "Even if awareness abides in an object, if it is not subdued by the illusory wheel, the power of wisdom cannot abide." Therefore, the posture of the Dharmakaya lion throne is: sitting on a cushion with the soles of the feet together, knees outward, hands in vajra fists with the thumbs pressing the base of the index fingers, placed at the base of the heels, elbows straight, waist straightened, abdomen pushed forward, upper body straightened, shoulders pulled upwards, neck slightly raised, eyes with eyeballs unmoving and eyelids not blinking, relaxing the gaze, looking at the sky above the shoulders in the manner of looking at the crown of the head. The tip of the tongue is slightly curled upwards. By doing this, the internal elements are temporarily balanced, and ultimately it is necessary to realize the meaning of the true nature. Then, the second is the posture of the Sambhogakaya elephant throne: lying face down on the cushion with knees and chest together, elbows placed at the base of the knees, palms supporting the chin, fingers touching the cheeks, elbows and spine straightened, soles of the feet supporting the left and right buttocks, eyes looking to the left or right with the corner of the eye, head slightly raised, looking askance as an archer does not straighten the bowstring. This temporarily controls the moving air, and ultimately it is necessary to reveal the meaning of the spontaneously present five lights. Then, the third is the posture of the Nirmanakaya hermit squatting.
