Suffering also mainly lies in: the big eating the small, the small piercing the big, many gathering to eat one, and one alone eating many. The Nagas are burned by gravel every day, and there is the fear of the Garuda. The scattered birds, beasts, livestock, sheep, etc., that are all over the ground, mountains, and rivers also eat each other, harm each other, and people involuntarily slaughter them for their flesh, skin, and bones. In addition, there is the suffering of being used, such as carrying unbearable loads, plowing, milking, shearing wool, plucking hair, driving, and beating. In common, there are also the sufferings of ignorance and dumbness, which are inconceivable. The length of life is uncertain, and the longest even have to endure suffering for kalpas. Moreover, we have been born many times in these three lower realms in the past, and there is no suffering that we have not experienced. Now, because of the continuation of past bad karma, and because we do not give up this life, we have done many things that we should not do for this life, so in the future we can only go downhill, and there is only suffering to endure. Now, we cannot even bear a little heat, cold, hunger, or thirst for a day, so how can we endure the heat and cold of hell, the hunger and thirst of the pretas, the servitude of animals, etc., the long and unbearable suffering of the lower realms? We should think strongly about this. Also, if we are born in a good realm through good deeds, even if we enjoy the happiness of the heavens, is that enough? Just as any fire, big or small, will burn, no matter where we are born in the high or low of samsara, it is the nature of suffering. The suffering of suffering in the three lower realms is as unbearable as a pit of fire, and there is no happiness even in the heavens. For example, in the human realm, whether big or small, there is suffering that corresponds to each individual, especially the common suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death, as well as poverty, depletion of property, separation, beatings, killings, etc., which are inconceivable. The Asuras also always fight, quarrel, get injured, and have their limbs mutilated because they are jealous of the prosperity of others.

And also killing, war crimes, etc., there are countless sufferings of struggle. Even the gods of the desire realm are intoxicated by desire and careless, so they have the suffering of death and falling. Like putting fish on hot sand, they have to experience the seven days of the gods' suffering, and there are also sufferings such as struggle. In the two upper realms, although there is no severe suffering for the time being, there is the suffering of change. Just like birds flying into the sky will eventually fall to the ground, when the contaminated virtuous karma is exhausted, they will fall into evil destinies again and experience severe suffering. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "The pleasures of the heavenly realms are vast, and having attained the bliss of detachment from desire in the Brahma realm, they become fuel for the fire of Avici hell. Know that they constantly endure suffering." Furthermore, the pervasive suffering of conditioned existence is like a giant performing magic or eating poisonous food. All conditioned things depend on causes and conditions, and therefore have the suffering of constantly losing autonomy. As it is said in the Four Hundred Verses: "Actions are produced by effort, and once done, they are destroyed without effort." Therefore, in this place of the three realms of samsara, whether born in a high or low place, there is not even a moment of opportunity for happiness, just like a patient constantly suffering from pain. Therefore, like a criminal escaping from prison, one must be determined to be liberated from this place, and thus generate genuine renunciation from samsara. The great teacher said: "Even if one strives in worldly affairs, there is no accomplishment. If one strives in the Dharma, one will quickly accomplish the means. Worldly affairs, even if good, will eventually decline. The result of practicing the sacred Dharma will never diminish. From beginningless time, the habits of karma and afflictions have been accumulating in the continuum, accustomed to and without interruption. Influenced by this, one wanders in the illusory samsara. There is no certainty as to when one will be liberated. Even if one remembers at the time of death, one will completely forget, just like medicine is useless after the head has been cut off. Therefore, after fully understanding the suffering of samsara, in order to truly climb the path of peace, protect all beings with love and compassion, and practice the union of emptiness and compassion." And, the instructions of the accomplished Melong: "Think about the suffering of samsara! Enter the excellent Dharma of the Three Jewels, and human life will have meaning!"
