In the commentary "La'i Explanation," it says, regarding the explanation of "Lamp of the Heart": It is determined by scripture, oral instructions, and reasoning. Also, in the "Elephant King's Torrent Tantra," it says: The words of the Sugata are valid, the oral instructions of the guru are valid, and one's own reasoning is valid; thus, it is determined by these three valid means. So, what are the characteristics of the three: scripture, oral transmission, and pith instructions? The explanation is that a scripture is something that explains, has a continuous lineage, possesses the five perfections, and has all the methods for accomplishing siddhis, therefore it is called a scripture. As it says in the Vajrasekhara Tantra: Because it explains and is without deficiency, and because it possesses perfections, it is called a scripture. Thus it is said. The characteristic of scripture is: extracting phrases from sutras and tantras and giving certainty of conviction. As it says in the Sutra of the Array of Merits: Scripture is a word of conviction, faults are exhausted, it is a true word, it will not speak falsely, it is without cause, know that the exhaustion of faults is scripture. Thus it is said. The characteristic of pith instruction is: with great means and small effort, all meanings are easily realized. As it says in the Vajrasekhara Tantra: Great means, small effort, immeasurable meaning. Easy to do, difficult to fathom, is pith instruction. Thus it is said. Regarding the categories of how to explain, there are two: the method of explaining the tantras spoken by the Buddha and the method of explaining the pith instructions elucidated by the wise. The first is: the general method of explaining Maha Yoga is to explain through the seven ornaments, Anu Yoga through the seven scriptures, Ati Yoga through the six general meanings, the Eight Commands of the Sadhana Section through the twenty methods of explanation, the Kalachakra Tantra is explained by combining the outer environment of the world, the inner vajra body, and other generation stage practices of deities. Some secret mantra tantras, in order to show the excellence of view and meditation, rely on meaning rather than words; in order to overwhelm the Hinayana such as Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, rely on definitive meaning rather than provisional meaning; in order to protect conduct and appearance without concealment, rely on the Dharma rather than the person; in order to distinguish between mind and mind-essence, rely on wisdom rather than consciousness, thus explaining through the four reliances, etc. There are many categories of explanation. Here, the main method is the general method of explaining Maha Yoga, that is, through the seven ornaments.

From... preaching, especially the Kadampa Zurpa father and sons preach with five dharmas, there are two kinds. The first is: As stated in the Heruka Galpo Tantra: "The seven jewels of Mahayoga, the opening remarks and the way to Buddhahood, the detailed explanation of the boundaries and the way of preaching, the classification of the characteristics of the individual vessel, knowing the true secret." As it is said. Among them, first preach in two ways: opening remarks and questioning. The former says: "There are five questions, what is the name of this tantra?" The answer is: "The name of this tantra is The Secret Essence Tantra Deciding the Truth." "Who is the author and teacher?" The answer is: "The teacher is the Lord of the Sixth Tribe, the auspicious Samantabhadra." "For whose benefit was this tantra created?" The answer is: "It was created to subdue sentient beings with sharp roots, strong attachments, and the five poisons." "What is the quantity of this tantra?" The answer is: "The rituals are like this, chapters and order, many in number." As it is said. The ritual refers to the real practice of empowerment and supreme accomplishment, and the detailed explanation of the four kinds of activities, such as peaceful activities, increasing activities, loving activities, and subduing activities. The homa of common accomplishment, briefly speaking of the Torma Tsok and the instructions of the land, are supplemented from other tantras in a compatible way, and preached as oral instructions. Chapters refer to the twenty-two chapters of the root tantra, and one chapter each in the two subsequent tantras, for a total of twenty-four chapters. Order refers to the sixth order, the third order, and the second order. Paragraphs refer to the twenty-two paragraphs of the root tantra, and the twenty-third and twenty-fourth paragraphs of the explanatory tantra. What is the necessity? The necessity is common and supreme. The common ones are, alchemy accomplishment, life equal to the sun and moon, swift foot accomplishment, eye medicine, and so on. The supreme accomplishment is, temporarily obtaining the four vidyadharas, and ultimately obtaining the fruit of complete and perfect enlightenment. The second jewel is, Galpo said: "The four ways of becoming a Buddha, tantra, opening remarks, definition, cause." Therefore, there are two kinds of ways: the four ways of detachment from greed and the four ways of desire. First, the four ways of desire are: The teacher Shakyamuni Buddha appearing as a human body is the way of the tantra, and leaving home from home is the way of the opening remarks,
