However, Legdenpa had a great many disciples, and because thousands of monks followed him, he became very prosperous. Before these two teachers appeared, all the Mahayana teachings existed as one. These two teachers considered Nagarjuna and Asanga to be very different. Asanga did not teach the Middle Way, but only Mind-Only, so we have nothing other than this. Thus, they prevented other schools of thought. It is said that after these two teachers passed away, the Mahayana also split into two factions, and great disputes arose. It is said that they were Buddhapalita was a disciple of Nagarjuna's early life, and Legdenpa was a disciple of his later life, and that disputes arose. To say that Buddhapalita was reborn as Chandrakirti, etc., is nothing but illogical nonsense. After that, the venerable Chandrakirti appeared and received all of Nagarjuna's treatises and instructions from many disciples of Legdenpa and Kamala Buddhi, a disciple of Buddhapalita. He became a great scholar and served as the abbot of Nalanda Monastery. He wrote commentaries on the Madhyamakavatara, the Chatuhshataka, the Yuktishashtika, and so on. He greatly promoted the school of Buddhapalita. He also displayed many miraculous deeds, such as extracting milk from a cow drawn on paper, and passing through walls without obstruction. He also defeated evil non-Buddhist opponents, brought many Brahmins and householders into the Dharma, and established many great monasteries. At the same time, the teacher Chandragomin appeared. He debated with a non-Buddhist pandita who could see the face of Avalokiteshvara, a teacher of the Lokayata school, and refuted his school. That person also said that reasoning is established by conceptual thought, and whoever can convince others is the victor. There is no evidence that there are past and future lives, so we do not accept it. Then, there, with the king and others as witnesses, he said: I will take rebirth, so put a mark on my forehead. Then, that person put a vermillion mark on his forehead, and the mark gradually disappeared. He also put a pearl in his mouth, and then he passed away. The king put his body in a double-layered copper container and sealed it.

Just as the Brahmin Pandit named Vishva Saga had promised to be born as a son, he was born with a boy possessing auspicious marks. As soon as he was born, there was a vermillion mark on his forehead and a pearl in his mouth. When the king and others looked at the previous corpse, the vermillion mark on the forehead had also disappeared, and only the trace of the pearl remained. Therefore, the heretics also believed that there were previous and future lives. As soon as the boy was born, he prostrated to his mother and did not drink milk for ten months, so people thought that speaking as soon as one was born was a bad omen, so he remained silent, and did not speak for seven years, so people thought he was mute. At that time, a very difficult to understand heretical opponent composed a beautiful and rhythmic verse to refute the views of the Buddhists, which troubled the king and all the scholars. When this happened in the house of Vishva Saga, because he could not understand it even after thinking for a long time, how could he answer? Once, he went outside the house for some work, and the seven-year-old Chandra Gomi saw the verse and felt that it was not difficult to understand, so he wrote an explanation and also wrote verses of rebuttal. When the father came home and saw what was written, he asked Chandra Gomi's mother, "Who came to the house?" The mother said, "No one else came, it was this mute son who saw it and wrote it." The father asked the son, and the son looked at the mother's face. The mother said, "Speak." The son said, "I wrote this, and it is not difficult to refute this opponent." After that, the next day Chandra Gomi and the heretical teacher debated, and Chandra Gomi won and received a generous reward, and his fame as a scholar spread in all directions. After that, once he went to glorious Nalanda, where he met the abbot of the time, Chandrakirti, who asked him, "Where do you come from?" He replied, "I come from the south." Chandrakirti asked, "What Dharma do you know?" He replied, "I know the Grammar, the Hundred and Fifty Praises, and the Three Scriptures of the Manjushri-Nama-Samgiti." Chandrakirti said, "You only know these three scriptures." Although he said these words modestly, in reality he admitted that he knew everything, and Chandrakirti thought, "Could he be Chandra Gomi?" So he asked him, and he said, "That's what the world calls me." After that, Chandra Gomi relied on the tradition of Asanga and adhered to the views of the Vijnanavada school. Chandrakirti's

Because of relying on Aryadeva's explanation of Nagarjuna's treatises, they took the position of asserting no self-nature. For seven years, they engaged in debates and investigations. Many people gathered regularly to watch the debate. Even the village children and girls knew a little and sang, "Alas, the treatise of the noble Nagarjuna is medicine for some and poison for others. The treatise of the invincible noble Asanga has become nectar for all beings." Chandrakirti thought, "Is there not a student of debate here?" When he came like Chandragomin, he stayed in a temple of Avalokiteshvara. Listening from outside the door, he saw the stone statue of Avalokiteshvara teaching the Dharma as a teacher teaches a student. Then he opened the door and said, "Do you have favoritism, noble one?" Immediately, the stone statue turned into stone, and because the finger of the hand that was teaching the Dharma remained, it was called Avalokiteshvara pointing. It is said that from that time on, the debate naturally subsided. Like this, many different tenets of self-emptiness and other-emptiness have appeared. It is not right to say that one side is correct and the other is not. Rather, it should be said that this is taught as a method to tame them, depending on the high and low capacities of beings. Moreover, those teachers are all noble ones. One should not slander the conduct of the noble ones because they are children, because they are the activity of the Buddha who tames beings. As it is said in the Sutra of Immaculate Space, "The Tathagata does not actually appear to all beings, but the virtuous friend is fully apparent, so value the virtuous friend more than the Tathagata." And as it is said in the Collection of Precious Qualities, "The Shravaka disciples of the Buddhas, as many as teach the Dharma, possessing explanation and wisdom, proclaiming supreme bliss and obtaining its fruit, all of these are the power of the Tathagata's beings." Therefore. That is also true in the ultimate sense: the first turning of the wheel of Dharma was for those who are beginners and have low faculties, considering that the Four Noble Truths should be abandoned and cultivated, in order to liberate from samsara, a method to liberate from what should be abandoned.
