From the 'Small Path,' it says, 'When practicing on common ground.' The causes for the arising of Bodhicitta, from the 'Path Gradation,' it says, 'Hearing the two teachings from Yama Protector, seeing virtues and seeing faults, and weariness, ignorance, and fear of them, are said to be the second cause.' Some say that it is unreasonable to generate Bodhicitta from the four types of paths, because the Pratyekabuddhas do not enter the Mantra path. It is said that having made three aspirations in previous lives, they appear when Buddhas and Shravakas do not reside. The common teachings say, 'When Buddhas do not appear, and Shravakas also cease, the wisdom of the Pratyekabuddha arises independently.' Therefore, they say this. To refute this, there are two: reasoning and scripture. The reasoning is: Pratyekabuddha, the subject, you are not a direct disciple of the Buddha, because that commitment is reasonable. If you accept, then, that is the subject, because it itself says, 'Pratyekabuddhas have the manner of a rhinoceros.' Second, it is established by scripture, in the 'All-Illuminating Net of Illusion,' it says, 'Showing the form of a friend to the Pratyekabuddhas, leading them into the Mahayana goal.' And in the 'Sutra Requested by the King of Complete Transformations,' it says, 'Those who are to be tamed by the form of a Pratyekabuddha, abide in the form of a Pratyekabuddha, and correctly indicate with the symbol of the Dharma that possesses dependent origination.' Third, the manner of arising is: depending on the faculties, arising by entering gradually and simultaneously. In the 'Path Gradation,' it says, 'Also, because of the nature of being tamed, becoming a vessel, due to nearness and distance, entering into great yoga by dividing into gradual and simultaneous four ways.' The divisions are: self-sharpness and trained-sharpness. Self-sharpness is: In the commentary on 'Self-Existing King,' it says, 'With the reasoning of the nature of Dharma, from the dark ground, eight ordinary minds arise.' Therefore, it is said. Trained-sharpness is: In the 'Path Gradation,' it says, 'In periods like eons of dust particles, those who are extremely tamed and abiding, with the eye of wisdom, enter here, so the long is also gradual and simultaneous.' Some say that if one is sharp-witted, then one must be trained-sharp, because the basis of natural sharp-wittedness is not established. Then, with the reasoning of the nature of Dharma, the faculties are definitely established.

The person with that attribute is the subject of the proposition. Because of that reason. If that is not established, in the Tantra of the All-Creating King it says: Because the faculties of gods and humans are not the same, some have faculties that are determined from the beginning, and some have faculties that have increasing faculties through practice. And also in the Abhidharmakosha it says: Some are of that kind from the beginning, and some are transformed from practice. And so on. If you want to establish it at the root, then it contradicts what is said in the Lamrim: For the three that are accomplished without practice, high, stable, and fast, vast and wide, profound is the person of the cause, and so on. Fourth, regarding the nature of a male, in the Small Example it says: The five Bodhicittas, such as cessation and rising, are definitely considered to be the nature of a male. There are two types of these, the five minds of the path of liberation and the path of means. The first, in the Commentary on the Eye, says: The first is the moving Bodhicitta, the second is the aspiration, the third is the entering mind, abiding is the fourth and fifth. The second, the five minds of the path of means, in the Twenty-one Elements it says: Cessation, rising, and abiding, and aspiration are Bodhicitta. Moving, proceeding, rising, and abiding. The definition of the path of liberation is: mainly through the three doors of hearing, thinking, and meditating, it is the lineage that liberates bondage into the nature of reality. Here it says: In the mandala of complete wisdom, through the combination of hearing, thinking, and meditating, self-arisen and spontaneously accomplished. The definition of the path of means is: mainly through the means and instructions, it is the lineage that quickly accomplishes the result through the conduct of asceticism on bondage. Wonderful is the method of liberation from bad migrations, which is originally unborn suchness. Illusion appears like an eye disease, even if all the actions of combining and liberating are done, not even a particle of dust is done. Thus, if these two paths are explained with examples, they will be easily understood. Just as the mixture of makshika transforms iron into gold, because it is a quick path skillful in means, it is the path of means, and it is not the case that without relying on it, there is no other method of alchemy. Just as when the precious stone Kotubha and a stone are placed together, the stone turns into gold, that is the example of the path of liberation. Regarding the path of liberation, here it says: Gradually or suddenly. Among them, the gradual one is, here it says: Knowledge enters, the object of attainment with characteristics, the result
