Just like the wick of a lamp, the body and fire burn inseparably, emitting groans, merely appearing as sentient beings. Being cooked in an iron pot along with burning firewood; being forced to climb up and down a huge iron-burning mountain; the tongue being pulled out, stretched on an iron-burning base, and then struck with a stake; the skin being peeled off and laid supine on an iron-burning base; the mouth being opened with an opener, and molten iron and molten copper being poured in, causing the mouth, throat, and all internal organs to be scorched, and then flowing out from the lower body, etc., the suffering is unbearable. The difference in lifespan is, as stated in the Abhidharma-kośa: "Fifty years of humans, is one day of the gods of desire. Therefore, the lifespan is five hundred years. The upper two are both doubled." It is also said: "The six, starting with Revived, are sequentially equal to the lifespan and days and nights of the desire realm gods." Therefore, fifty years of humans is one day of the Four Great Kings. Calculated by this, one's own age is five hundred years. This completely becomes one day of the Revived Hell. Its five hundred years is the lifespan of the Revived Hell. The number of years in the lower hells increases twofold, and the number of days also increases twofold, so it should be known that the upper hells are four times that of the lower hells. Second, contemplating the suffering of the cold hells. The difference in location is, in the darkness without the light of the sun and moon, etc., in the canyons of snow and ice, the wind and blizzards are extremely cold, pervading everywhere. In accordance with the meaning of the sounds of body and speech, the suffering of cold, the lower hells are said to be seven times colder than the upper hells. The intermediate beings born there will see a vision like burning in fire, seeing the place of the cold hells. Because of craving for it, they run, and will be born there. The difference in suffering is, the Blister Hell is, being struck by the cold of wind and blizzards, the body is filled with blisters, contracting and suffering. The Bursting Blister Hell is, because it is too cold, the blisters also burst. Iron worms born from within tear the skin with sharp beaks. The flowing fat and pus also freeze, so it is painful. The Achu Hell is, emitting faint groans.

The term cracking like a lotus refers to: Even grayer than blue, turning red, cracking into ten openings, or even more than that. The term cracking greatly like a lotus refers to: The extreme cold causes the skin to peel off, appearing bright red, cracking into hundreds or thousands of openings, making the suffering unbearable. The difference in lifespan is: As stated in the Abhidharmakosha: "A hundred years to exhaust sesame oil, One sesame seed removed, The lifespan of the water blister hell, Others have twenty times the lifespan." It is said that: A container that can hold eighty Magadha (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning) kharis (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning) is filled with sesame seeds. Every hundred years, one sesame seed is removed until all the sesame seeds are gone. This is said to be the lifespan of the water blister hell. The lifespans of the other hells are calculated by multiplying by twenty. Third, contemplating the suffering of the surrounding hells. The Abhidharmakosha states: "Each of the eight hot hells has sixteen additional hells on its four sides, including fire pits, excrement mud, paths of sharp knives, and rivers." This means that each of the four sides of the eight hot hells has four hells, totaling sixteen. Whether emerging from the hot hell itself or being born there, it is the same. No matter which direction one flees, one will fall into a fire pit that reaches up to the knees. As soon as the foot is placed, all the flesh and skin will be burned, and when lifted, it will recover. Even if one escapes from there, one will fall into an extremely foul-smelling swamp of decaying corpses, where sharp-mouthed worms as thin as needles will drill into the flesh and bones to gnaw. Even if one escapes from there, one will reach a path filled with sharp blades, where the foot is cut into pieces as soon as it is placed, and when lifted, it will recover. And so on, to summarize: After escaping from there, one will enter a forest of sword leaves. While resting there, the wind of karma blows, and swords fall like rain, cutting the body, and when one falls, one will be surrounded by dogs.
