Among the previous three. (The second is) For example, just as one relies on fire when it is cold, life and enjoyment, etc., even including the bliss of meditative absorption, all of these are pleasurable feelings, mainly humans and desire realm gods. (The third is) For example, just as a thirsty person drinks salty water, these two sufferings. The basis is the aggregates of formations that are taken up, this is merely the source of all suffering. From this, all sufferings such as birth and aging arise sequentially, and when it only possesses neutral feeling, it merely obtains the name of the suffering of formations. Mainly in the four meditative absorptions. As it is said in the sutra, "Whatever feeling there is, therefore all is suffering." This also refers to that. If one cannot be liberated from this, one cannot be liberated from the other two, just as one cannot cut off the leaves without cutting off the root of a tree, it should be known. Fourth, contemplating the cause and effect of karma: contemplating karma and its effects in general, contemplating them specifically, and summarizing them with the four truths. First, contemplating in general is: As it is said in the sutra, "The karmas of sentient beings, even after hundreds of thousands of eons, will not be lost. When they are accumulated and the time has come, they will mature into fruition." Therefore, the result of virtuous karma is happiness, and the result of non-virtuous karma is suffering, the way in which black and white karmas mature separately is inconceivable, therefore one must adopt and abandon. Whether it is virtuous or non-virtuous karma, in the time of the causal karma, even if it is small, when the result ripens, it increases and becomes large. The greatest change is an increase of a hundredfold or a thousandfold. The greater change is immeasurable, like the growth of barley and other seeds. Therefore, if one does not destroy the karma one has accumulated with antidotal forces, it is impossible for it to be lost until the result has ripened, therefore it is very important to be careful about what to adopt and abandon. Second, contemplating specifically includes: contemplating non-virtue as something to be abandoned, contemplating virtue as something to be cultivated, and transforming the unspecified into virtue. First is: That which is non-virtuous karma is that which is naturally blameworthy, whoever commits it becomes sinful. The three poisons, jealousy, stinginess, etc., are able to arouse root afflictions, secondary afflictions, and all misconduct, and these incite the non-virtuous actions of the three doors.

All actions that violate the vows one has taken are sinful. Therefore, all the sufferings of samsara arise from non-virtuous actions. Although there are many kinds of non-virtuous actions, if we summarize the most important points of what to adopt and abandon, there are ten. The Abhidharmakosha states: "Therefore, having briefly summarized, good and non-good, according to what is appropriate, are explained as the ten paths of action." Therefore, among the three actions of the body, killing is: with the intention to kill, killing something that should not be killed, and not turning away from the intention to kill until it is dead. Stealing is: taking or stealing another's property without their permission, in any way, as long as the thought of possessing it arises. Sexual misconduct is: non-object, referring to a woman owned by another, relatives within seven generations, prostitutes who have not been paid, those protected by parents, kings, etc., and those protected by vows of celibacy. Non-time, referring to those who are sick, grieving, pregnant, menstruating, and those who can never satisfy their desires, etc. Non-place, referring to stupas, temples, among many women, and uneven, hard, and rough ground that harms practice, etc. Non-way, referring to relying on paths other than the genitals. These are for householders, but for celibates, any form of impure conduct is sexual misconduct. Among the four actions of speech, lying is: changing perception with the intention to deceive, knowingly telling a lie, and the other person understanding its meaning. This is not limited to verbal expression, but also includes bodily gestures. Slander is: speaking divisive words with the intention to separate two beings who are not in disharmony, and the other person understanding its meaning. Harsh speech is: directly stating the faults of others, etc., speaking unpleasant words, and the other person understanding its meaning. Idle talk is: not the above three, but idle chatter, singing, acting, war, business, love stories, etc., and talking about heretical teachings, etc. Among the three actions of the mind, covetousness is: being attached to the residence, possessions, retinue, etc. of others.
