Firstly, other supports are not suitable as vessels for Dharma. Even if one obtains a human body, one may not encounter virtuous friends or meet the teachings. Even if all these are present, one may not find food and clothing. Furthermore, one may have many illnesses in the body and many afflictions in the mind, so that even if one asks a hundred lamas for Dharma, one cannot change one's stubborn nature. Even if one changes once in a while, one will be lost to circumstances. Even if one is interested in Dharma, one's wisdom is dull. Now, examining oneself, the grossest obstacles are almost non-existent. At present, the Buddha's teachings are still available. Although one's mind is defiled by wrong views and one does not see the actual lama and Buddha, one can still encounter virtuous friends who point out the unerring path to liberation and advise on everything from eating and drinking. As the saying goes, if a meditator does not fall into a ravine, his reputation will grow. If one does not think about accumulating wealth, it is easy to find enough to sustain oneself. Although one's faculties are not defective and one has some degree of intelligence, the dullness of animals is only absent on the road (to death). Even intelligent animals cannot recite a single syllable of the mani Even if they could, they would not understand its benefits and harms. Because Tibet is the field to be tamed by Avalokiteśvara, even an eight-year-old child recites mani in the hope of benefiting himself, which is far superior to other supports. Therefore, if one is interested in practicing Dharma, the victorious one (Buddha), who has skillful means and compassion, will not be stingy in helping anyone, whether they are intelligent or foolish, high or low, and one should rejoice in this. Having many illnesses and afflictions, etc., can also be turned into aids for Dharma if one knows how to use them. Secondly, although it is better than other supports, if one becomes arrogant because one has obtained many things, then people nowadays, whether it is Dharma or worldly affairs, cannot achieve their desires merely by wishing, but must strive diligently. Most people strive, but their efforts become fruitless, which is due to whether or not they have accumulated merit in their previous lives. Although everyone places their hopes on the powerful, wealthy, and rich, the results vary greatly. Some people cannot progress as soon as they enter the Dharma gate and have many obstacles; others achieve everything they desire. These various situations are due to the amount of merit accumulated in previous lives. Therefore, obtaining such a leisure and endowment requires many causes and conditions, and these are all due to one's previous practice.
