Regarding explaining the ways in which the four discriminations are connected, there are two points: the general discrimination and the individual entities, and how these four discriminations relate to the definitive aspects of the Mahayana. The first point is that, in general, there are three ways of explaining discrimination, and here it refers to the discrimination of mixed grasping of sound and meaning. This discrimination is further divided into two types: with afflictions and without afflictions, and here it refers to the discrimination without afflictions. Its definition is: any consciousness that grasps its own object as a characteristic, which becomes an obstacle to fully examining the knowable. In terms of classification, there are two types: those that become obstacles to fully examining suchness and the extent of things. The first is the discrimination that obscures reality, and the second is the discrimination that obscures the law of cause and effect. Here, it is appropriate to explain the first type, because it is now the time to explain the opponents of the path of seeing and the path of meditation, which directly realize the freedom from elaboration. For the first type, there are two kinds: substantial grasping discrimination and imputed grasping discrimination. The first is synonymous with true grasping, and it is divided into substantial grasping discrimination on the object grasped and substantial grasping discrimination on the grasper. The first is further divided into phenomena of pervasive defilement and phenomena of purification. For purification, there are two types: Mahayana and Hearer Vehicle purification. In sequence, the consciousness that focuses on these and grasps them as true is called the grasped aspect of pervasive defilement, the grasped aspect of purification, the grasped aspect of entering, and the grasped aspect of cessation. The grasper discrimination is also divided into two types: phenomena and persons. The first refers to mind and mental factors, as well as non-conceptual wisdom. The second refers to the imputation of a person on that basis of imputation. That is, the imputation of a person on ordinary beings and noble beings. That is, there are two types: those that take the mode of grasping a person as an object, and those that take it as an object of focus. Here, it refers to the latter, because the former needs to be explained as falling under the category of afflictive obscurations. Generally, Although the way of establishing the discrimination of grasper and grasped is like this, the establishment of the discrimination of grasper and grasped mentioned here is not merely sufficient to focus on the object of grasper and grasped and grasp it as true, because it must also be explained that in the grasped object of the mode of grasping, there must also be the discrimination of grasping as the grasped and grasping as the grasper. Imputed grasping discrimination is the superimposition of true grasping.

The mind that clings to mere imputation regarding the meaning of imputation is one that clings to mere imputation. It can also be divided into two from the perspective of the object: clinging to mere imputation of the object to be grasped and clinging to mere imputation of the grasper. The first can also be divided into two from the perspective of the general and the specific, and the specific can also be divided into two from the perspective of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles. Clinging to imputation that focuses on the grasper can also be divided into two: to phenomena and to persons. The second, regarding the manner of existence, can be divided into two: generally, in what kind of person does it exist, and specifically, the four definite aspects and the manner of how it exists. The first is: as many substantialist conceptualizations as there are, exist in the post-attainment of ordinary beings and Hearers and Solitary Realizers, but do not arise in the post-attainment of Great Vehicle Noble Ones. Regarding the conceptualization of imputation clinging, there are aspiration-mindfulness and suchness-mindfulness. The first is: it is manifestly present in both the equipoise and post-attainment of the Great Vehicle's path of joining, while the latter manifestly arises in the post-attainment of the seven impure grounds, and in the pure grounds, conceptualization that grasps sound and meaning cannot arise. The second has three aspects: the manner of determining through hearing and thinking on the path of accumulation; the order of mindfully engaging through meditation-arisen wisdom on the path of joining; and the manner of directly seeing suchness, which is free from all conceptualizations of sign-grasping, on the path of seeing. The first is: initially, it is necessary to explain the reasoning that refutes substantialism, because initially it is necessary to refute the co-emergent grasping. After that, it is necessary to explain the reasoning that refutes imputation-clinging conceptualization, because after that it is necessary to refute the grasping mode of the conceptualization of yogis. Substantialism can also be divided into two from the perspective of the grasped and the grasper. Initially, it is necessary to explain the reasoning that refutes the true establishment of the grasped, because unless the true establishment of the grasped is refuted, the true establishment of the grasper cannot be refuted. The grasped can also be divided into two from the perspective of the general and the specific. Initially, it is necessary to refute the true establishment of the grasped object of afflictive emotions, because if the true establishment of conventional phenomena is not refuted, the true establishment of ultimate specific phenomena cannot be refuted. The second is: on the path of joining, it is necessary to gradually practice in accordance with the order of how it is determined on the path of accumulation, in accordance with the order of what is determined through hearing and thinking, practicing through aspiration.
