Forty. The two upper realms do not have anger, because the continuum possesses quiescence. Therefore, "This (being) has harmed me, is harming, and will harm me," there are these three situations. There are also these three situations for my relatives. For my enemies, "has benefited, is benefiting, and will benefit," there are these three situations, altogether lacking the nine things that cause mental distress. Therefore, each of the four truths has nine, totaling thirty-six. Among them, distinguishing by the way of wrongly entering, the truths of suffering and origin have three ways: directly, wrongly, and through control. The truths of cessation and path have two ways: directly and wrongly entering wrongly. Directly wrongly entering is to cling to the four truths with the view of self, that is, clinging to the self and what belongs to the self in relation to the person and phenomena. With the extreme view, clinging to permanence or annihilation. Denying that the characteristics of those wrong views do not exist. Due to ignorance, being deluded about all objects and views. Due to doubt, hesitating about the antidote, therefore, with five ways, directly wrongly entering the truths of suffering and origin, and on the truths of cessation and path, on that basis, fearing selflessness, and the anger that causes mental distress, with six ways, directly wrongly entering. That is to say, although afflictions cannot directly focus on the truths of cessation and path and the upper grounds, but with conceptual thought, fabricating on those and directly focusing on it, therefore it belongs to directly wrongly entering. Wrongly entering wrongly is: with the supreme clinging to views, considering the first three views as good. With the supreme clinging to ethics and asceticism, considering bad conduct related to wrong views as the path of liberation and definite emergence. The two, attachment and pride, focusing on objects are to be abandoned by meditation, but the attachment clinging to the three wrong views, and the pride filled with the three wrong views, focusing on the four truths, mistakenly thinking of the first three views, and being confused by focusing on it, therefore it is wrongly entering wrongly. Anger, due to the power of the view of self, being distressed by views or tenets that do not conform to the truth, this is wrongly entering due to control. Thus, the eighty-two afflictions are divided into four groups of ten. Only by newly seeing that alone can they be abandoned, therefore they are to be abandoned by seeing. Secondly, according to the Hearers, there are four: attachment, anger, pride, and ignorance. According to the Great Vehicle, on top of that, adding the view of self and the extreme view, there are six. These six exist in the desire realm, but in the form realm and the formless realm, there is no anger.

The sixteen arising from the five. That is, one realm of desire, four meditations of the form realm, four realms, four formless births, four realms, that is, nine realms, with eighty-one desires. Similarly, pride, ignorance, destructive views, and extreme attachments each have eighty-one, and there are nine kinds of anger in the desire realm. Four hundred and fourteen, divided into four groups, represent what is to be abandoned in meditation. Third, the meaning of obtaining instructions, the initial path arising from meditation, the determining branch is: object and aspect, etc., there are seven verses. Among them, there are three explanations of characteristics, divisions, and special features. First, it is the realization of meaning that occurs after the completion of the Great Vehicle's path of accumulation and before the arising of the Great Vehicle's path of seeing. The divisions are: heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme dharma. Moreover, each division is further divided into small, medium, and large. Third, the explanation of special features is that the Great Vehicle's path of joining is superior to the Lesser Vehicle's path of joining in terms of five special features: the way of focusing on the object, the way of realizing the aspect, the way of acting as a cause, the way of completely grasping, and the way of abandoning what is to be abandoned. The special features of object and aspect are: knowing that it has the aspect of realizing the selflessness of phenomena by focusing on the sixteen aspects of the four truths, such as impermanence. Third, the special feature of acting as a cause is that it makes the cause of the Great Vehicle's path of seeing, which is complete with the lineage of the three vehicles' realization, uninterrupted by other paths. Fourth, the special feature of the way of completely grasping is: not fearing self-nature, etc., abandoning aspects that are incompatible with it, is completely grasping all aspects. As the verse says: Not fearing self-nature, etc., abandoning aspects that are incompatible with it, is completely grasping all aspects. Therefore, the inner complete grasping is skillful means, and the outer complete grasping is a spiritual friend. The aspects that are incompatible with these two are not fearing emptiness free from elaboration, and not being stingy with Dharma and wealth, being completely grasped by the teacher who teaches the Dharma. Fifth, the special feature of the way of abandoning conceptual thoughts is that it directly abandons the manifest conceptual thoughts mentioned here by the power of mainly obtaining a clear appearance of the meaning of the absence of inherent existence of the grasper and the grasped, and suppresses the seeds. To this, here, the Bodhisattva protector, the nature of heat, etc., as it is, relies on having four conceptual thoughts.
