are established. If summarized in terms of their essence, they are summarized into two types of eyes: the eye that is the essence of sense consciousness and the eye that is the essence of mind consciousness. Among them, the first two are entirely sense consciousness, the middle two in the continuum of learning are mind consciousness, and the Buddha's eye possesses both. Therefore, the first two are not contradictory, because they are the eye consciousness of a Bodhisattva practitioner on the path of application, based on the actual basis of self-cause meditation, established as the first eye from the perspective of knowing the container world of hundreds of millions of measures, and the second eye from the perspective of directly knowing the death and birth of sentient beings residing therein. The middle two are not contradictory, because the wisdom of noble Bodhisattvas is established as the eye of wisdom from the perspective of directly realizing the selflessness of phenomena, and as the eye of Dharma from the perspective of directly knowing the differences in the faculties of others' continuums. On the path of learning, the first two and the middle two are contradictory, because the first two are established as sense consciousness and the latter two as mind consciousness. In the Buddha's realm, all five are not contradictory, because the eye consciousness of the noble Buddha possesses all the characteristics of the five eyes. Thus, in the Commentary on the Hundred Thousand Verses, it is said: "Knowing the entry into all forms is the flesh eye, knowing the equal entry into meditative absorption is the divine eye, and the wisdom that knows everything is the eye of wisdom." Fifth, there are two types of boundaries: the main boundary and the boundary of attainment. First, in order, are the path of accumulation, the path of application, the equipoise of the noble continuum, its subsequent attainment, and the Buddha's realm. Second, the first two exist from the path of accumulation when the actual basis of meditation is attained, and the middle two exist in the continuum of all noble beings who have attained the actual basis of meditation. The Buddha's eye, in accordance with this, exists from the seventh ground, because in the Sutra of Complete Purification of the seventh ground, it is said: "What is the unobstructed wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva? It is the Buddha's eye." The characteristic one exists only in the Buddha's realm. Third, there are two types of fruits: temporary and ultimate. The first is, from the perspective of the five eyes, knowing the way to benefit others without error, and thus not relying on others when teaching instructions. The second is the unsurpassed.

can accomplish the fruit. The sutra says: After training in these five eyes, Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas can attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Second, encouraging cultivation from within, explaining the cause for quickly perfecting the fruit, which is the six qualities of supernormal cognition. The sutra says: Having attained the perfection of supernormal cognition, one can experience various kinds of magical transformations. Therefore, for the six supernormal cognitions, there are three aspects: cause, essence, and fruit. First, the cause has three aspects: the physical basis, the mental basis, and the cause of maturation. First, there are two aspects: in which realm it is attained, and by whom it is attained. First, there are two situations: newly attaining what was previously non-existent, and abiding in what has already been attained. The first situation is that cultivation must be done on the basis of the desire realm, because it mainly arises relying on the power of the scriptures. As for the supernormal cognition of exhaustion, it can also actually arise on the basis of the form realm. The second situation is that the first five supernormal cognitions can arise on the basis of both the desire and form realms, and the sixth supernormal cognition can also exist in the formless realm. If we differentiate in detail, the supernormal cognition of knowing others' minds and the supernormal cognition of remembering previous lives may also arise on the basis of the formless realm, because the noble Hearers who have the basis of the formless realm can directly know the differences in the faculties of others' minds and their own and others' past and future lives through their wisdom. The second situation is that it can actually arise in the minds of non-Buddhists who have attained the basis of meditative concentration, and in the minds of all those who have not entered the path, because that is how it is explained in the Compendium of Topics. Second, there are two aspects: a general explanation and a specific explanation of the basis of the Mahayana supernormal cognition. The first situation is that the first five supernormal cognitions rely only on the basis of meditative concentration, and the sixth supernormal cognition relies on the fourth meditative concentration. As it is said in the Compendium of Topics: How are these qualities manifestly cultivated? Whether it is a non-Buddhist, a Hearer, or a Bodhisattva, they rely on the pure fourth meditative concentration and manifestly cultivate the immeasurables. How to manifestly know the five immeasurables is also the same. The remaining qualities, whether it is a Hearer, a Bodhisattva, or a Tathagata, rely on the most perfect fourth meditative concentration and manifestly [attain them].
