One should strive in service and offerings. If signs resembling prophecies occur again, one should diligently employ whatever auspicious means are appropriate, it was said. That winter, I, as an attendant, remained around the hermitage meditation chamber, where I observed a retreat for nearly three months, focusing single-mindedly on practice. I also performed as many rituals as possible, such as fulfilling aspirations, making confessions, and offering prayers. Then, starting from the second month of the Water Rabbit year (1903), considering that the construction factory for building the outer representation of the Father Lord could not be established in the Labrang (bla brang, usually referring to the residence of high officials or monasteries), I stayed in a secluded hermitage at Darlung Samten Tse (dar gling bsam gtan rtse), with the noble master of yoga, Klong Yang Ösel (klong yangs 'od gsal), as my attendant, strictly observing the commitments of the Secret Assembly Lama's approach and accomplishment practice. At that time, all appearances of day and night mostly blazed as pure appearances, and especially on the twenty-second day of the third month, he briefly saw the great master Padmasambhava with his retinue. Then, it became clearer and clearer. Above the skylight of the retreat room, the Father Lord, the Great Lord of Secrets, whose body and attire were all the same as before, but whose radiance was even more brilliant, held the previous skull garland in his right hand. Sangye Sangwa, Mitra Jogi Namsnying, Ma Gnyag, and other Indian and Tibetan scholars and accomplished ones, whom he thought were those yogis, monks, mantra holders, and many women, thronging and coming. Due to the unbearable burning of devotion in his heart, the Father Lord himself transformed into the form of the Great Orgyen (o rgyan, Oddiyana). The dwelling itself also became vast, an immeasurable palace, pervaded by the appearance of light. In that instant, the Great Orgyen (o rgyan, Oddiyana) conferred empowerment in the Heruka mandala and blessed him with mantras, mudras, symbols, and various methods. At that time, the assembly of dakinis, represented by the sound of cymbals, danced filling the sky, etc., this clear appearance lasted for a while, and finally vanished like a reflection in water disturbed by waves. In the experience of uncontaminated bliss, he was amazed. When he thought that the previous devotion was just a false conceptualization, the unfeigned faith itself was liberated into the nature of self-knowing, free from elaboration. Its power manifested as the play of unimpeded faith, abiding in firm conviction. Again, the month

On the evening of the twenty-fifth of April, in a dream, a young woman who seemed to be the sister of the尊者 himself, holding a clear and bright butter lamp, said, "The time when the father lineage of accomplishment was shown to be obtained at the place of Drakmar (བྲག་དམར་) is the tenth of the next month. Go without hesitation or doubt! Pray to the Great Guru! Offer a tsok tor to the Treasure Lord Dakini! If you do so, your wishes will be fulfilled." As it appeared, the next morning, when these events were reported to the mother, she said, "It is not right if you do not pay attention and be serious, be careful to keep it as secret as possible for now." Then the mother herself secretly prepared the clothes and necessities, pretending to be in strict retreat in that place, and on the evening of the fifth of May, taking Jangchub Wangyal (བྱང་ཆུབ་དབང་རྒྱལ་) as an attendant, they set out on foot. As soon as they came out of the east gate of the monastery's iron fence, a light as bright as the sun clearly showed even the lines on their hands. The 尊者 thought it was a good omen, and gradually, around sunrise, they arrived at the junction of Yangkha (ཡང་ཁའི་). There, they met some travelers going to Lhoka (ལྷོ་ཁར་), one of whom was an old man being ferried across the river in a leather boat. When asked to ferry them to the north, let alone ferrying them, he scolded them with harsh words, and the 尊者 gave up hope and continued on. That night, they stayed overnight at the market of Traphi (གྲྭ་ཕྱི་), where there was a prostitute known as Gonsar (དཔོན་སར་), who provided excellent service. The Geden Lama (དགེ་སྟེང་བླ་མ་) and his nephew also came there as guests. The next day, they followed the servants of Traphi Mondrubpa (གྲྭ་ཕྱི་སྨོན་གྲུབ་པའི་), those who were going to circumambulate Samye (བསམ་ཡས་). They crossed the small streams behind the Tsang River, and the larger rivers were crossed by leather boat. In some places, the more important people in the circumambulation group sat in the leather boat, while the 尊者 and others pulled the boat along. When the leather boat reached the center of the Tsang River, a strong wind shook it and nearly capsized it. Everyone was frightened and scared, calling out the names of the lamas they relied on for refuge. Some people were sarcastic towards each other. The 尊者 thought, "Even when seeking refuge with a fleeting mind in the face of danger, such attachment and aversion arise." Intense compassion arose.
