Mahasyanila was dispatched and proclaimed in all directions. There, a teacher was invited from the south, and about five thousand Brahmins and countless people, including kings, gathered. As before, the Dharma was established as evidence, and they were thoroughly defeated, so they jumped into the Ganges and died. Many followers of those people, some were ordained, and some were placed in the position of lay practitioners. At that time, three Kashmiri teachers came and, with honest minds, debated extensively on the tenets of the schools, and thus had great faith in Buddhism. They took refuge and received vows, listened to the tenets of the schools, became very proficient in the seven treatises on valid cognition, and went to the northern region of Kashmir, where they promoted the logic of Dharmakirti. Again, he went to the southern region, propagated the Buddha's teachings, and defeated the obstacles to the teachings through debate. He subdued kings and ministers, etc., through the Dharma, and caused the Sangha and monasteries to flourish immeasurably. The teacher himself built about a hundred temples, and the number of those built by others at his urging was countless. It is said that the number of monks and lay practitioners, etc., who were induced to enter the Dharma by this teacher totaled nearly a hundred thousand, but most of them were entrusted to other Khenpos and teachers. Although disciples connected through the Dharma spread throughout the entire earth, it is said that no more than five truly followed him like a shadow. It is said that in his last life, the previous Sagara Acharya was reborn as the son of the later Bhadra Acharya, and had even greater power of intelligence than before. He came before his own deity and personally learned wisdom, and sometimes entered his body and spoke of unprecedented wisdom. By debating, he caused the people of the Sujaya school to enter the Dharma, and as a result, Dharmakirti was victorious, so he caused him to enter Buddhism, and it is said that in the southern region, there were Brahmins and lay practitioners abiding in celibacy, making offerings to Buddhism. Thereafter, at the end of his life, he built a monastery in the land of Kalinga, placed many people in the Dharma, and passed away. His remains were cremated in the cemetery.

A rain of flowers fell on the earth, and all directions were filled with pleasant fragrance and music for seven days. All the remains coalesced into a single stone ball resembling a plum, with no trace of bones, and even now, festival offerings are made. It is said that this teacher was a contemporary of the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo (reigned c. 617-650), which seems to be in accordance with the facts. This teacher composed the Seven Treatises, but most paṇḍitas did not understand them. Some understood, but out of jealousy, said it was not good. He said, "Just as if a tail is tied to a dog, the dog will run around in the streets and alleys, so too will my treatises spread in all directions." And at the beginning of the treatise, he inserted a verse such as "Most people are attached to the ordinary." Later, the teachers Lhawang Lo and Shakya Lo gave excellent explanations of the Seven Treatises, and Lhawang Lo was commissioned to compose in the style of a self-commentary. He wrote it once and offered it, but it was washed away by water. He wrote it again, and it was burned by fire, so he wrote it again, writing: "Because most people have no merit, And time does not wait. For the sake of habit, I have briefly, Completed this difficult commentary here." After writing and offering it, (the master) said, "The key points expressed by implication and innuendo have not appeared, but the direct meanings of the words have appeared." And he left it at that. He thought, "No one can fully understand my reasoning," so at the end of the Commentary on Valid Cognition, he inserted a verse: "Just as a river merges into the ocean, it will merge into its own body and disappear." Thus, among the Six Ornaments, Nāgārjuna, Asaṅga, and Dignāga are the authors of the treatises, and Āryadeva, Vasubandhu, and Dharmakīrti are the authors of the commentaries. They each, according to their own times, equally performed the deeds of illuminating the Dharma, and are therefore known as the Six Ornaments. The yogis who attained accomplishment in their (time) were: the teacher Lāva-pa, Indrabhūti (the middle one), Kukkurāja, the teacher Padmasambhava, and Lālitavajra, who were roughly contemporaries. The Padmasambhava at this time is the middle one. Lālitavajra was a paṇḍita of Nālandā, and is the [lineage holder] of the Guhyagarbha Tantra.
