If, no matter what suffering arises, one thinks that practicing the two aspects of Bodhicitta is sufficient, and always maintains inner peace, that is the measure of mind training. Even if distracted, one can overcome it, that is the result of mind training. Just as a skilled rider, even if distracted, will not fall from the horse even if the horse stumbles. Similarly, if a mind trainer, even when distracted due to lack of mindfulness, can transform insults, slanders, and other adversities into aids for mind training, that is the measure of mind training. Sixth, teaching the vows of mind training: 'Always train in the three common essentials.' That is to say, one should train so as not to be defiled by even the slightest transgressions of the three vows of Pratimoksha, Bodhisattva, and Vajrayana, so that mind training does not contradict the vows. To make others aware that one is not attached to oneself, one should avoid sleeping in dangerous places, cutting down dangerous trees, stirring up dangerous waters, going to places with infectious diseases, and so on. One should abandon all eccentric behaviors, so that mind training does not become eccentric. Being able to endure harm from humans but not from spirits, or vice versa; being able to endure harm from relatives but not from enemies, or being able to endure all of these but not the suffering of illness, and so on, are all examples of biased mind training. Therefore, one should always train in these three common essentials. 'Transform intentions, maintain the original state.' That is to say, one should transform the intention of cherishing oneself and not cherishing others, and the thought of clinging to self, by cultivating the exchange of self and others through thought. As for the actions of body and speech, one should maintain them as they were, without making them worse than before. 'Do not speak of impaired limbs.' That is to say, one should not speak unpleasant words, such as mentioning the faults of the Dharma, the deficiencies of vows, and worldly defects such as foolishness, blindness, and so on. One should speak pleasant and agreeable words with a smile. 'Do not think of any faults of others.' That is to say, one should not think or speak of the faults of other beings in general, and especially those who have entered the Dharma. Even if one sees faults, one should think that it is one's own impure perception, and that they do not have such faults. 'When afflictions arise, subdue them first.' That is to say, one should examine which affliction is strongest in one's own mind, and first subdue and counteract the strongest affliction. 'Abandon all expectations of results.' That is to say, one should abandon all expectations of results from mind training, such as worldly gain, respect, and fame in this life, the happiness of gods and humans in the next life, and the attainment of Nirvana for oneself. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abandon all expectations such as desire. Abandon poisonous food. 'This means that even good food can strengthen the body, but if mixed with poison, it will lead to death. Similarly, the mind of enlightenment (Sanskrit: bodhicitta, mind of enlightenment, the mind of awakening) gives rise to the Buddha (Sanskrit: Buddha, Buddha, the awakened one), but if mixed with clinging to reality and self-cherishing, it will generate the suffering of samsara, just like poisonous food, so abandon it. Learn to be without clinging, like an illusion. 'Do not rely on good government.' This means holding a grudge against others for harming oneself and never turning away from that grudge. For example, worldly people with good government never forget what benefits them, no matter how much time passes. Therefore, abandon grudges and do not rely on them. One should have the thought and action of returning benefit for harm. Do not retort with harsh words. 'This means that in response to harsh words spoken to oneself by others, do not retort with harsh words that pierce the hearts of others and harm them, do not utter various kinds of evil words that emanate from the depths of one's bones. This is very important. 'Do not wait for an opportunity.' This means keeping in mind the harm done to oneself by others, not forgetting it even after many years, waiting for an opportunity to retaliate, and delivering harm when the opportunity arises, which is waiting for an opportunity. Abandon this behavior, do not wait for an opportunity, and return benefit for harm. 'Do not strike at the vital point.' This means abandoning the practice of exposing the faults of others in public, such as violating vows, and not striking at the vital point. Do not speak words that cause pain in the hearts of others. Do not transfer the load of a dzo to an ox. 'This means that one should transfer the unwanted responsibilities and burdens that befall oneself onto others through various cunning means, just like transferring the load on the back of a dzo to an ox. One should not transfer one's faults to others in this way. Do not perform inverted rituals. 'This means that if one truly desires good results, one should accept temporary failures and practice mind training in order to pacify illnesses and evil spirits and to avert misfortune. For example, performing ransom rituals out of fear that a patient will die. This behavior, like acting out of the hope that one will not die, has become a perverse practice, so do not do it. Do not aim for the top of the swift. 'This means having the thought of hoping that one will receive more fame, gain, and respect than other similar practitioners. For example, just like aiming for the top of the swift when horses are racing, do not have such thoughts. One should be indifferent to whether or not one receives fame, gain, and respect. Do not turn a deity into a demon. 'This means that mind training is for subduing self-grasping, but if one becomes arrogant because of it, thinking that one's own mind training is good and that others do not have such practice, thereby generating pride. For example, a deity is one who brings benefit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
