Mind Training Collection LJ44 Root Text Commentary on the Seven Points of Mind Training - The Lotus Garden Where Fortunate Bees Play 1-842 ༄༅། །Root Text Commentary on the Seven Points of Mind Training - The Lotus Garden Where Fortunate Bees Play ༄། །Preliminary Teaching on the Dharma of Support ༈ Root Text Commentary on the Seven Points of Mind Training - The Lotus Garden Where Fortunate Bees Play. Namo Guruve (藏文,梵文天城体,guru,Teacher). All qualities such as strength, and all talents, Perfected, to the Supreme Sage, I respectfully bow. To slightly explain the root text of the extraordinary Mind Training in Seven Points, I am supremely delighted. Here, the Dharma to be explained is the teaching of the Sage, the King of the Shakyas, and the heart essence of the Victorious Ones, including the sons such as GyaltsapMipam Transmitted from ear to ear (སྙན་ནས་སྙན་དུ་), it reached Serlingpa Chokyi Drakpa (གསེར་གླིང་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་གྲགས་པ), Lama Dharmarakshita (བླ་མ་དྷརྨ་རཀྵི་ཏ་), and Lama Jampai Naljor (བླ་མ་བྱམས་པའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་). From these three, the incomparable Jowoje Palden Atisha (ཇོ་བོ་རྗེ་དཔལ་ལྡན་ཨ་ཏི་ཤས་) listened with great effort for a long time and perfected it. Then, he came to Tibet and turned the wheel of Dharma immeasurably based on this method. From that, Dromton Rinchen Gyalwai Jungne (འབྲོམ་སྟོན་རིན་ཆེན་རྒྱལ་བའི་འབྱུང་གནས་), who was the actual Chenrezig, listened. From him, Potowa (པོ་ཏོ་བ་), the lord of the mind of enlightenment, and from him, Geshe Sharawa (དགེ་བཤེས་ཤ་ར་བ་), and from him, Jachä Kawa Chenpo Yeshe Dorje (བྱ་འཆད་ཀ་བ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེས་) listened, and he composed it. The main point of the Seven Points of Mind Training is to teach the method of exchanging self and others, which is the conventional Bodhicitta. Now, I will explain the meaning of the words, which have seven points: 1-843 The preliminary teaching on the Dharma of support, the actual practice of training the two Bodhicittas, transforming adverse conditions into the path of enlightenment, condensing the practice of a lifetime, measuring the attainment of mind training, the vows of mind training, and the precepts of mind training. The first is: 'First, train in the preliminaries.' That is, the first preliminary for meditating on the two Bodhicittas is, as stated in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: 'This leisure and opportunity is extremely difficult to find. Having obtained the opportunity to accomplish the purpose of a human being, if we do not accomplish benefit from it, how will we ever obtain such an opportunity again?' Therefore, contemplate the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity. As stated in the Extensive Play Sutra: 'The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds. The birth and death of beings are like watching a dance. The life of a human being is like a flash of lightning in the sky. Life is swift like water flowing down a steep mountain.' Therefore, contemplate the impermanence of death. As stated in the King Sutra (རྒྱལ་པོ་ག): --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the Sutra of Admonitions to Salgyal: 'When death comes, even a king must depart. Wealth, friends, and relatives will not follow. Wherever that person goes, karma will follow like a shadow.' Therefore, contemplate the law of cause and effect. The Sutra says: 'Due to the power of craving, existence, and ignorance, in this world, humans, gods, and the three lower realms, these five types of beings are not skilled in samsara, like a potter's wheel turning.' Therefore, contemplate the faults of samsara. These four points should be learned and practiced. The main practice: Training the two aspects of Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment). The second part is the main practice, which is divided into two parts: cultivating ultimate Bodhicitta and cultivating relative Bodhicitta. The first part is further divided into preliminary and main practices. First, the preliminary practice: 'Subdue thoughts with breath'. This means that in order to subdue the obstacles to meditation—discursive thoughts—sit comfortably in the lotus position, guiding the breath outward and inward twenty-one times, making it a suitable vessel for practicing meditation. Second, 'View all phenomena as dreams'. This means that the external environment and the beings within it, appearing as objects to be grasped, are not separate from one's own mind, nor are they truly existent external entities. Abide as if in a dreamlike state. If one thinks that the grasping mind is real, it is not. Practice that the grasping itself is nonexistent. 'Examine the nature of unborn awareness'. This means that by deeply observing the nature of one's own mind, because it is not composed of any shapes, colors, etc., it is initially unborn. It does not exist now in any place, whether inside or outside the body. Ultimately, it has nowhere to go. Observe the nature or essence of awareness, which is free from the three characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing, in oneself and others, thereby gaining certainty. If the antidote of 'all body and mind are empty' arises, then the antidote itself will dissolve in its own place. This means that, in this way, contemplating that all body and mind are empty, even the mind that performs the function of an antidote is unestablished from the beginning. Relax and meditate in that state of emptiness. 'Abide in the essence of the basis of all'. This means that the essence of all phenomena, clear and continuous, free from the elaborations of the four extremes, in the nature of the basis of all, the Alaya-vijnana (storehouse consciousness), do not grasp anything with the mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
