How to abide in the main practice? Second, how to train in the post-meditation period? It is said: 'During breaks, contemplate as an illusory person.' That is, in the post-meditation period, between sessions, although various appearances of the environment and beings arise, mistaking them as real when they are not, contemplate the illusory person moving around and enjoying objects. Second, cultivating the conventional Bodhicitta has three aspects: preliminary practices, the main practice, and practices during breaks. First, 'First, cultivate loving-kindness and compassion well.' That is, before practicing giving and taking (Tonglen) and exchanging self and others, first, towards all sentient beings, including enemies, friends, and neutrals, cultivate loving-kindness, cherishing them as if they were your only child and wishing them happiness; and cultivate compassion, wishing to protect them from all harm and suffering. Second, 'Practice the two, giving and taking, alternately.' That is, contemplate giving your body, possessions, the merits of the three times, and all happiness to all sentient beings who have been your parents. Contemplate taking all the suffering results and the causes—karma and afflictions—of all sentient beings who have been your parents. In this way, train by alternately practicing giving and taking. 'Apply the two to the wind.' That is, practice giving and taking in this way: as you inhale, imagine all the suffering of sentient beings, along with its causes and effects, gathering as black smoke, entering through your nostrils, and dissolving into your heart, thereby completely eliminating the sins and suffering of sentient beings. As you exhale, imagine all your happiness and virtue transforming into moonlight-like rays, emanating as white light from your nostrils, and dissolving into all sentient beings, thereby enabling them to attain Buddhahood. In this way, applying the two, giving and taking, to the wind is done as the main practice. Third, the practice during breaks is: 'Three objects, three poisons, three roots of virtue.' That is, when attachment, aversion, and ignorance—the three poisons—arise based on the three objects—pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral—one should train the mind in this way: 'I am now engaging in desire.' Thinking that there are also many beings in the world who are controlled by desire, generate compassion. Then, mentally draw all of them into your heart. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, thinking that all sentient beings should be endowed with the virtue of non-attachment. Thus, by transforming hatred and so on into the path, the three poisons become the three roots of virtue. To arouse mindfulness, as it is said in the scriptures: 'In all conduct, purify with words.' That is, in order not to forget the practice of exchanging self and others, in all stages of conduct such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, one should, as Shantideva said: 'May my evil deeds ripen on them, may all my virtues ripen on them.' Express with words and purify with strong intention. As it is said in the scriptures: 'Start from the order of receiving.' That is, in order to be able to receive the suffering of others, one must first start with oneself, first mentally accepting the suffering that will mature in the future, and then gradually accepting the suffering of others. Transforming adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment Third, transforming adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment. As it is said in the scriptures: 'When the vessel and its contents are filled with sin, transform adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment.' That is, when the external environment declines, the internal sentient beings are fierce, or because one has committed evil deeds in previous lives and suffers many pains, one must skillfully transform all the adverse conditions that have befallen into the path to enlightenment. This is further divided into three types: relying on conventional Bodhicitta, relying on ultimate Bodhicitta, and relying on special conduct. First, as it is said in the scriptures: 'All faults belong to one.' That is, no matter if the body is sick, the mind is unhappy, one is slandered, or one encounters enemies, disputes, lawsuits, etc., one should not blame others, but attribute all faults to this 'I' who clings to self. As it is said in the scriptures: 'View everything as great kindness.' That is, for all harm-doers and other sentient beings, one should think that they are one's companions in accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, and that they are one's parents, so one should contemplate that they have great kindness and practice the exchange of self and others. Second, as it is said in the scriptures: 'Viewing illusions as the four bodies, guarding emptiness is supreme.' That is, in general, for the appearance of the external vessel and its contents, especially for all adverse conditions, one must determine that this is just an illusion of one's own mind, and that there is no real existence at all, thereby realizing that the Dharmakaya is unborn, the Sambhogakaya is indestructible, and the Nirmanakaya is omnipresent, and that these three are inseparable. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
