('gro ba'i sdug bsngal gang ci'ang rung)。’

He entered (the monastery). A Geshe (Dge-bshes-pa, referring to a knowledgeable person in Buddhist studies) was circumambulating the stupa ('bum pa, referring to a commemorative building) he had built himself and sitting there. A person named Jikse ('Jigs-se) went up to him and prostrated. 'Please be kind enough to stay here for a while. I have something to ask.' The Geshe, while reciting a Bodhi rosary (bo dhi rtsi'i phreng ba, referring to a rosary made of Bodhi tree seeds), said, 'What problem do you have that hasn't been resolved?' People say that Geshe Potowa (Dge-bshes Po-to-ba) is proficient in the Mahayana Mind Training (theg pa chen po blo sbyong bya ba). I am very interested in that. If there is such a Dharma, it would sometimes be helpful in situations such as not being able to find a place to stay. Sometimes, even if I try, I remain unknown.' I asked, 'Should I take this path?' The Geshe moved the rosary beads and said, 'Whether you succeed or not is not in the path itself. If you don't want to become a Buddha, then don't. Once you want to become a Buddha, if you don't take this path, it is impossible to attain enlightenment.' He said, 'From his decisive answer, I felt that he must have extraordinary experiences within him.' I asked, 'Then, if a person studying scriptures needs a basis (lung, referring to scriptural basis), do you have it?' He said, 'The Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra (Spyod 'jug) says, "Whatever suffering there is for beings." ('gro ba'i sdug bsngal gang ci'ang rung).' I thought, 'Would he quote this?' He said, 'Who doesn't take Master Nagarjuna (Slob-dpon Klu-sgrub) as a standard? In his Ratnavali (Rin chen phreng ba) it says, "May all my sins ripen on them, and may all my virtues ripen on them!" I prostrated three times and left. I asked him if he had the Ratnavali, and he said he did. He opened it for me to see, and it was indeed there. He said, 'Someone had looked at it before, but didn't understand it.' I was very happy to hear that, offered him some food, and then spent about two years in Zhorlo (gzhor lo), and about six years in Dege (Dge gong), spending these nine years constantly exploring. He said, 'Others are like carrying goods on their necks.' He moved to Sharba (Shar ba) and went to Gangma Skito (Sgang ma sgi thog). He said, 'Even if you only stay there for a while, explore privately, and if you can succeed in a place with seeds, then do it.' Only one suggestion came from Zur Sa (Zur sa), and because he was clever, he could understand it. He said that only one person didn't understand it, because he was too humble and too generous. Each gathering had about two thousand eight hundred monks, and only the Master (Slob-dpon) could understand the mysteries. He said, 'He seems to rely only on the Vinaya Sutra (mdo, referring to the Buddhist code of discipline), even for small things, he can fully comply with the precepts.' He said, 'If he could explain it to more people, it might be more beneficial.' He said that even for those who were explaining, no one could understand it at first. Later, when he explained it to the leper Khayar (Mdze pho kha yar), Khayar's pure vision (dag snang, referring to a pure view of things) was strong, and they communicated with each other, so he was called Leper Cho (Mdzé chos). When he was in Jin gyis kyor lung (Byin gyis skyor lung), his younger brother and 'Bal po ches... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
