One should regard me as the giver, without any difference from a spiritual friend. As it is said in 'The Song of Bliss': 'Whether an enemy or a friend, wherever afflictions arise, whoever sees them as spiritual friends, they will be happy wherever they dwell.' If such a thought arises, it is sufficient, and even without anything else, one is walking on the path to enlightenment, just as one cannot find impurity on Golden Island. For example, practicing Dharma is not about changing the external world with one's own thoughts. Even if faced with the opposition of humans, demons, and gods, one's mindstream cannot be harmed by negativity and suffering, because no one can do it, therefore one is a hero. Verse Seven: In short, whether directly or indirectly, give all happiness and benefit to all mother beings, and with reverence, take all their harm and suffering into your own hearts, practice this. The verse is: 'In short, directly or indirectly, give all benefit and happiness, mother's harm and suffering, reverently take into your own.' The summary is to summarize all that has been said before. Reverently, through contemplating the kindness of mothers, take it into your own heart, not just in words, but from the depths of your heart, practice exchanging self and others. Actually, giving one's own happiness, such as food and medicine, to sentient beings, and taking all their suffering, is the cause of attaining higher realms and definite goodness in the future. If one cannot take it directly, then take it indirectly, through contemplating the exchange of self and others in thought, and dedicating the happiness of this life in aspirations. As it is said in 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life': 'If one does not exchange one's own happiness for the suffering of others, not only will one not attain Buddhahood, but there will be no happiness even in samsara.' Therefore, exchange from the depths of your heart. Verse Eight: For all of these, since faults may arise, do not mix them with any attachment to this life, and with the wisdom of knowing all phenomena as illusion, practice without attachment to anything. The verse is: 'All those faults, do not be stained by the defilement of worldly thoughts, knowing all phenomena as illusion, be liberated from the bonds of attachment.' The antidote is: do not mix with worldly thoughts such as hoping to be seen as a good person, etc. If mixed with the eight worldly concerns, and acting for one's own benefit, then the Dharma will be lost to demons. Therefore, if one knows all phenomena as illusion, one can abandon attachment from the root, because the current appearances are not truly existent. As it is said (in the text): 'In such empty phenomena, what is there to gain or lose?' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What merit have I accumulated? What have I attained? Is it happiness or suffering? What is displeasing? What is pleasing?’ and so on. May I embrace all like the sky. Praying and wishing for all: Offering a mandala to the lama and the Three Jewels and praying. If the blessings and compassion of the lama, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the three times exist, if all the wrathful Father Ten and Mother Ten have power, and if the wisdom dakinis have power or ability, please bless me so that the meaning of these eight verses may arise in me. Please bless me so that all the suffering and causes of suffering of all sentient beings may ripen in me, and that all the fruits of bodhichitta that I have attained may ripen in all sentient beings. Combine this with the Four Noble Truths and practice. After doing all these virtuous deeds, recite the prayer of the eight verses. Reciting this prayer plants the habit of bodhichitta. By such virtue, may I spend all the years and all the time. May I also meet such a virtuous friend in the next life, and may I also meet such a friend.’ Think in this way and pray again and again. The explanation of the eight verses of Bodhisattva Langtangpa: The root commentary written by Chakawa Yeshe Dorje is a profound oral instruction for mind training. May I strive to practice this so that it may arise in my continuum! The story of the ugly-faced Achara: In India, there was an Achara living behind a door in a group of beggars. There was a person named Soso who had not taken a bath. At that time, there was a debate by the heretics, and others could not refute it. Then, the person who had not taken a bath said, 'The Achara behind the door, he has not taken a bath, he is called Soso.' Then, that person was called to refute the debate. He said, 'No one knows who has merit.' A couple did not realize they were being robbed, and they thought, 'They will not come with a ladder,' and let it go. Later, in the evening, the situation became even worse. King Asanga (name of a king) had an Achara with bad character who often frequented Jowo Rinpoche (Atisha). Someone requested not to associate with this person. Jowo Rinpoche said, 'I associate with this person in order to perfect the virtue of patience.' Langtangpa (Geshe Langtangpa) encountered the first example of failure. Even if that was not true. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
