Even if I am not sure that I can do it, I will still practice like this: Whatever suffering beings experience, may they ripen upon me. Practice this mindset. For things that are difficult to obtain and precious, learn like this: For example, jewels are difficult to obtain, so they are not discarded, but picked up and cherished. Similarly, those who are difficult to meet, because relying on them can generate compassion, and relying on compassion can generate Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment). Therefore, the goal of effortlessly generating the Mahayana path is difficult to obtain. Why? Because compassion does not arise for saints and worldly perfect people, so Bodhicitta cannot be increased, and therefore Buddhahood cannot be achieved. As it is said in the scriptures: 'Without realizing Bodhicitta, the Buddhas do not have the means.' The fifth mind-training is: No matter what accusations or slanders one receives, do not refute them, but leave the loss to oneself. As the verse says: 'Others insult me out of jealousy, I will leave the loss to myself, and offer the victory to others.' It means that no matter what accusations or slanders others make against me out of jealousy or other reasons, I should not be impatient, but keep my mind calm, and not refute by saying 'I did not do it, this is a slander against me,' but leave the loss to myself, like the venerable Langri Tangpa. It is said that wherever a problem arose, he would say: 'I also have a share in this problem.' The reason is that now we strive to practice generosity, discipline, and other virtues in various ways in order to purify sins and perfect accumulations. Therefore, if we regard slander as a kindness, even if it cannot replace the previous two virtues, if we refute, we cannot purify our own sins. Leaving the loss to oneself is because it does not have an impact on karma. Langri Tangpa once said: 'Rather than offering butter to the Sangha (community), it is better to regard unwarranted slander as a kindness, as this can eliminate sins and perfect accumulations even more.' As it is said in the *Bodhicaryavatara* (A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life): 'Therefore, relying on strong hatred, one can generate patience, so hatred is the cause of patience, and should be offered like offering the holy Dharma.' The reason is that patience is more meritorious than discipline, and there is no sin like hatred. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As it is said, 'There is no austerity greater than patience.' This is the patience that does not mind harm. Sixth Verse: The sixth is the patience of accepting suffering: If one has previously bestowed kindness, or with a great expectation, deceives and quarrels in that place, one should cultivate the virtuous friend with a sense of gratitude, that is: Whoever I have benefited, or whoever has great expectations, even if they cause extremely unreasonable harm, one should learn to regard them as a sacred virtuous friend. For example, once there was a merchant who thought, 'I will go to Kham to visit the teacher Sherab Ozer (ཤེས་རབ་འབར་,梵文:Prajñājjvalita,IAST: Prajñājjvalita, meaning: Blazing Wisdom), because his friendship with me is like heart and liver, he will surely treat me well.' As a result, he deceived me, drove me away, robbed me of all my possessions, and even locked me in a dark room. At this time, one should reflect on whether one has previously practiced loving-kindness and compassion, whether those sufferings have matured me, and whether all my happiness has matured him. If it is found that one has not practiced well before, then the previous saying, 'May I mature their suffering, may they mature all my happiness,' becomes a lie. Therefore, do not blame others, but turn around and blame yourself. Even so, if there is no karma, such a thing will not happen. Because I have done such harm to sentient beings in the past, sentient beings will cause such harm to me. Therefore, one should think that this is one's due retribution, and maintain inner peace, so that one can be happy and make others happy. This is one's own karma. Saints who do not abandon sins will not allow anyone to be harmed. Conversely, if he is implicated by his own bad karma, and because of me he falls into a bad path, then this is my responsibility. Because my karma drives, there will be people who harm me. If he falls into hell because of this, then haven't I ruined him?' Therefore, one should save him from suffering. Even if someone insults me, or someone harms me, or even speaks ill of me, one should wish that they all have the good fortune of Bodhi. Or, even if one is harmed in return for kindness, one should cultivate great compassion. The noble ones of Jambudvipa repay evil with good. Cultivating the virtuous friend with a sense of gratitude is because the virtuous friend is very kind and heavy, they punish me, give me guidance on practice, and show me the path to liberation. If one does not practice oneself, and does not keep the precepts, one cannot embark on the path to liberation. And this person gave me guidance on practice, purified my sins, perfected my accumulation of merit, bestowed kindness on me, and gave me guidance on practice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
