Now, with love, compassion, and the mind of Bodhicitta (enlightenment mind), give away the flesh and blood of your body as they desire, making it a support and aid for Bodhi (enlightenment). All demons are emanations of the Buddha, so cultivate immeasurable joy and respect for them. Especially when sickness arises, take all the sickness and suffering of all sentient beings into your heart, and cultivate joy, thinking that all sentient beings have attained perfect liberation. When there is no sickness, encourage yourself by giving your own happiness, along with its causes, to sentient beings, and cultivate joy, thinking that all sentient beings have attained perfect realization. This is like a broom sweeping away sins and obscurations. Sins and obscurations cannot remain for even a moment. If a hundred sufferings arise, there will be a hundred ways to seek liberation. Because you have never experienced it, there are a hundred ways to fail to find it. Therefore, take a hundred abandonments and a hundred realizations as the path. This is a great transformation of Dharma nature; cultivate the recognition of joy in it. These are the four completely defiled Dharmas to be abandoned. It is also said: 'Happiness is a great suppression, suffering is a great continuation, bad omens are an enticement to fall, and the most unnecessary is wish fulfillment.' These are the four antidotes to inverted Dharmas, needed when subduing in border regions, and needed in the degenerate age for enduring evil deeds in evil environments. The meaning is: Therefore, for the suppression of happiness such as food, enjoyment, and fame that become obstacles to virtuous actions, continue suffering through contentment with little desire. If your feet hurt, circumambulate; if your back hurts, prostrate; if your desire is great, give to others; if you like distraction, go into retreat; if you like idle talk, abstain from speaking. If great unwanted omens occur, such as bad words, quarrels, or curses, this is a method for subduing the demon of self-grasping. Encourage courage, entice falling, and continue. Since all the most unnecessary things like this have come upon me, if I can overcome these now, I will not be reborn in Samsara (cyclic existence) in the future.' Like this, regard them as wish fulfillment, thereby gaining the power of the three patiences. These are the four antidotes to inverted Dharmas that are universally applied. It is also said: 'I am the root of bad karma, a Dharma to be cast far away. Others are the source of Bodhi, a Dharma to be embraced tightly.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are two practices of abandoning relatives and friends, which are needed when subduing in border areas. Endurance of the evil deeds of bad retinues is needed in the degenerate age.' The meaning of this is: Do not cherish the source of everything you do not want, the root of all evil deeds, but discard it like garbage. If the enemy likes it, let the enemy take it; if the ghost likes it, let the ghost take it. If you are not in a hurry, use it to make offerings to the Dharma; if you are in a hurry, carry it and run. Treating oneself in this way is for the benefit of all sentient beings, abandoning one's own interests, and diligently accomplishing the interests of others. This is the source of unsurpassed Bodhi, so one should compassionately protect sentient beings. Taking suffering upon oneself is two kinds of practice of abandoning relatives and friends. This is a special practice of great Bodhisattvas. It also says: 'Throw it away far away, and let it go gently. Like a louse, gently place it on the louse. These are the four expansions of emptiness, which are needed when subduing in border areas. Endurance of the evil deeds of bad retinues is needed in the degenerate age.' If you practice in this way, the practitioner will not be bound and will be liberated.' The meaning of this is: Throw away all the thoughts of grasping and clinging far away, and in the realm of Dharma, which is free from elaboration, let the awareness be clear and without thoughts, and let it go gently, without being bound by anything. That is to say, do not follow the previous thoughts, do not welcome the future thoughts, and do not bind the present thoughts, like a louse, gently, without fabrication or addition, let it go naturally. These are the four expansions of emptiness. If you practice in this way, you will not be bound by karma, you will be liberated, and you will attain liberation. If there are other practices, it will be impossible to subdue the stubborn sentient beings of the degenerate age, and if you have this practice, you will not be hindered by obstacles, and the work of benefiting sentient beings will be accomplished naturally.' This is what the incomparable Serlingpa said. From the *Amoghapasha Sutra*: 'Wisdom is called Bodhi, and the warrior is skillful means. These two can accomplish the benefit of sentient beings.' From the *Condensed Essence of Liberation*: 'Then, only compassion can produce the basis of all virtues.' It also says: 'If you lose the root of compassion, you will not be able to endure suffering.' From the *Noble Sutra of Collecting the Dharma of Avalokiteshvara*: 'Those who wish to quickly attain complete enlightenment do not need to study many Dharmas, but only one Dharma, which is great compassion.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
