If the opponent establishes with valid cognition that the 'thesis' (所立) is the general collection of dissimilar characteristics of the 'subject' (有法), then it is a point of refutation. If it cannot be established, then it is not considered a point of refutation. The teacher said that if the opponent can demonstrate with valid cognition that 'generality' exists, is apprehended by the senses, and is permanent, then it is not based on accepting treatises that are not valid cognitions. Contradiction with the 'thesis': As the stated thesis contradicts the reason, it is a contradiction with the 'thesis'. The 'etc.' in 'reason etc.' includes contradiction with the 'thesis', contradiction with the 'reason', contradiction with the 'example', contradiction with 'one's own words', contradiction with 'valid cognition', contradiction with 'response', and so on. For example, contradiction with the 'thesis' and the 'reason' is like: 'The subject, which possesses three characteristics, is different from qualities, because no substance different from qualities is observed.' This needs to be established as a syllogism with two statements. But this is not reasonable. Because the directly stated 'thesis' prevents the statement of proof, if it is established here as a statement of proof, then even if the 'thesis' is not directly stated, it will not contradict the directly stated 'thesis' and 'reason'. If it is thought that even if the 'thesis' is not directly stated, but contradicts the intention, it is considered a contradiction with the 'thesis', then this will become a 'contradictory reason', but because a non-probative member is stated, it is a point of refutation for refuting the opponent. Therefore, the point of refutation of 'contradictory thesis' cannot be established separately. Similarly, contradiction with the 'thesis' and 'one's own words', for example: 'The nun is not pregnant' or 'it is selfless' etc., if the 'thesis' is directly stated, then it is a verbal defect, because a non-probative member is stated, it is a point of refutation for refuting the opponent. The reason why contradiction with the 'thesis' and 'reason' becomes a 'contradictory reason' is that if there is a substance different from qualities, then the substance with the characteristic of 'possessing three characteristics' must be different from form etc. As the teacher said, if the reason establishes the opposite of what is to be established, then this is a contradiction. Contradiction with the 'thesis' and 'valid cognition' is included in the 'unestablished reason'. Examples of contradiction with the 'thesis' and 'example' etc. can all be classified as the three faults of the reason. Although it is said that, depending on the situation, contradiction, uncertainty, and unestablishment can all be stated as points of refutation, the teacher believes that most do not go beyond the two categories of contradiction and unestablishment. A broader understanding can be gained from the treatises. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Enough.' The so-called 'rescinding the pledge' is, as previously stated, rescinding the meaning of the pledge by restricting aspects, which is rescinding the pledge. For example, if the proponent, in order to prove that 'sound is impermanent,' puts forward the reason 'can be perceived by the senses,' when the opponent refutes from a general perspective, and the proponent, unable to find another refutation, denies, saying, 'Who says sound is impermanent?' this is considered a rebuke for the proponent rescinding the pledge. But this is not the case; if this statement is incomplete, it does not constitute a rebuke; if the statement is complete and the rebuke is valid, it is because the proponent previously stated an uncertain reason, which is the rebuke. Therefore, it is meaningless and unreasonable to carry out subsequent rebukes by means of rescinding or abandoning the pledge. If it were not so, then a statement like 'escaping is escaping' would become a classification of rebuke. Another reason is, as previously stated, when it is forbidden to state a reason without distinction, if one wants distinction, that is another reason. For example, if it is stated: 'These appearances are all the same, because they have measure, just as measure is seen on clay pots and other things with earthen nature,' then the opponent says: 'Having measure can be seen on both one thing and many things, so it is uncertain.' When refuted in this way, the proponent says: 'Therefore, for those things that essentially follow one main thing, they have measure.' This is considered another rebuke of another reason. But this is also unreasonable; if the statement is incomplete, there is no opportunity for refutation, so it does not constitute a rebuke; if the statement is complete and provides an opportunity for refutation, then it becomes a rebuke for previously stating an uncertain reason, because it is the proponent who puts forward the reason of having measure related to many inconsistent aspects. Therefore, it cannot be regarded as a rebuke of another reason by stating a subsequent reason. The so-called 'other meaning' is, as previously stated, a meaning that has no connection with the true meaning, which is another meaning. For example, if it is stated: 'Sound is permanent because it is not tangible.' Then, starting from the category of the sound of the reason, explaining words unrelated to etymology, such as the name caused by 'Henoda' (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), as well as 'Akhaya' (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), 'Nivala' (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), and 'Napata' (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), etc., this is considered another rebuke of other meaning. But this is not the case; if the proponent says something irrelevant, this includes the rebuke of stating a non-proving part; if the opponent says something similar, then it includes the rebuke of stating a non-fault, because they respectively belong to the part of proving. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
