The three other-exclusions separated from the way of application. The basis of the second example is, as stated in the 'Seven Treatises Clearly Explained': 'For example, in the conceptualization that holds sound to be permanent, it appears as permanent sound by cutting off the impermanence of sound.' This is not reasonable. Which of the three divisions is it? Which division of the other-exclusion of entities? Because the basis of which example is not that. Therefore, sequentially, like the general meaning of the existence of a vase appearing in the subsequent inference of holding a vase on the basis of having a vase, and like the general meaning of the existence of a vase appearing in the conceptualization of holding a vase in a place where the vase cleans the ground, and like the general meaning of the existence of a vase appearing in the doubt of doubting whether a vase exists or not. If the other-exclusion of mind relying on non-entities is divided, then for the object to be negated, there are two possibilities: existence and non-existence. Fourth, summarizing the key points: On top of the general meaning of a vase and the general meaning of a non-vase, the general mind-exclusion and these two divisions should be determined. The general meaning of a vase is called 'other-exclusion', 'exclusion', 'determination', because on top of the object of exclusion, the vase, the excluder, sound and conceptualization, rely on the excluded non-vase to be established, so it is imputed. At that time, the excluder, sound and conceptualization, and the object of exclusion, such as a vase, are not other-exclusions, because they are self-characteristics. A vase and thousands of non-vases, although they are other-exclusions, are not mind-exclusions, because the subject-possessing sound and conceptualization do not rely on the excluded object of exclusion. Similarly, the general meaning of a vase is called 'other-reversal' and 'reversal', because in the conceptualization of holding a vase, it appears as reversing from a non-vase. It is called 'general meaning', because it appears in the form of a bulging belly. It is called 'sound general', because it follows the sound and conceptualization of saying 'vase' to the bulging belly. Similarly, it is called 'mixture', 'relation', and 'general characteristic', because in the conceptualization of holding a vase, the clear vases appear to be mixed together, etc. In particular, this is called the other-exclusion of entities or the other-exclusion of existents, because in the conceptualization of holding a vase, cutting off what cannot perform a function, it appears in the form of a vase that can perform a function. This is called the other-exclusion relying on entities, because the basis or support for establishing it, the vase, is an entity. Similarly, the general meaning of a non-vase is generally the same as the previous way of knowing that establishes it as other-exclusion, etc., but in particular, this is called the other-exclusion of non-entities. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Know that, for the conceptualization that grasps the non-pot, that non-pot, because it appears as the aspect of non-entity and relies on non-entity, is called 'other-exclusion (gzhan sel)'. Because the basis of establishment—the non-pot—is a non-entity. Therefore, on the basis of what is to be excluded—the non-pot, when the excluder—the word and conceptualization that express the non-pot—excludes the pot to be excluded, the word and conceptualization of the excluder are self-characterized (rang mtshan), and the basis of exclusion—the non-pot—is a non-affirming negation (med dgag), so it cannot be the object of refutation. The general sound or general meaning that the word and conceptualization of the excluder rely on, merely in relation to the cutting off of the pot, is established as the other-exclusion of sound and the other-exclusion of consciousness. May the intention of the Three Hundred Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom Sutra (梵文:Arya Triśatikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra,圣三万颂智慧度经) be completely fulfilled! Second, a real self-characterized thing and other-exclusion are the same in meaning, and if it is that, then it is pervasively other-exclusion. Third, the other-exclusion of non-affirming negation will be explained below. Classification from the perspective of what is to be negated: Second, from the perspective of what is to be negated, there are two types of other-exclusion: non-affirming negation (ma yin dgag) and non-affirming negation (med dgag). These two each have three aspects: definition, names, and examples. The first is: the definition of the two, that after one's own object of negation is negated, it does not directly bring about another phenomenon, and that it does bring about another phenomenon. The second is the names: non-affirming negation, other-exclusion of non-affirming negation, other-exclusion of establishment, establishment of exclusion, and the collection of both negation and establishment, these five are the same in meaning. Non-affirming negation, other-exclusion of non-affirming negation, other-exclusion of negation, negation of exclusion, and pure negation, these five are the same in meaning. It is reasonable to say so, because in the 'Self-Commentary' it says: 'Therefore, the two of exclusion and establishment of exclusion, and non-affirming negation and non-affirming negation are the same in meaning.' For example, the absence of a pot and the place where there is no pot are like pure negation and the collection of negation and establishment. Therefore, some of our own school, if they think that the pervasion that a general characteristic is other-exclusion cannot be understood, and that it is wrong to think that if it is establishment, it is pervasively non-affirming negation, this is because they have not distinguished the tenets of their own and other schools, and they do not understand what is meant by other-exclusion of non-affirming negation, which is a manifestation of not matching name and meaning, so it is better to speak less. Therefore, for the two other-exclusions of 'existence' and 'non-existence' that are directly shown in the examination of other-exclusion, it is only the refutation of consciousness, so the other-exclusion of 'non-existence' here and the other-exclusion of non-affirming negation are completely contradictory. Therefore, it is easy to mistakenly think that they are the same in meaning. And the reason why non-affirming negation and non-affirming negation are not explained in this examination of other-exclusion is because in the examination of definition it says: 'Appearance is the object of reality, exclusion has both negation and establishment.' That is why. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
