The second case is also that it must be both directly perceived and subject to arising and ceasing simultaneously. Why is that? Because these two are directly perceived and of the same substance. This argument is simple, and if admitted, the three wheels are the same as before. Also, let Shapa (夏巴, personal name) be the subject, you must be of the same substance as the tree. What is the reason why you and the tree are of the same nature? Because you are a real thing. The first argument is that you and the tree are of the same self, because you and the tree are related in substance, because you have Shapa, and the tree exists in the east, which is a true sign of self-nature. If anyone has wisdom, please answer. Your way of avoiding faults is not entirely correct either. If the tree is a real thing, then is Shapa of the same or different substance from it? In the answer to the dispute, ask 'Is this measure direct perception or inference?' etc. In conclusion, if it becomes a real thing, then it is not necessarily of the same or different substance. If it is a measure, then it is not necessarily direct perception or inference. These words are not spoken by the wise. Even if the tree is a real thing, it is not necessary to admit that it is of the same or different substance as Shapa. If it is admitted that the tree is a general real thing, then examining whether it is of the same or different substance as Shapa, all ability to issue accusations will be lost. The ability of the measure to determine the number in direct perception and inference will also be lost. The first argument is established, even if the former party admits that the tree is a general real thing, if it does not admit that it is of the same or different substance as Shapa, then you will have nothing to refute. If there is no fault, the former party admits that the tree is both general and real, we admit that the tree is real, but do not admit that it is general. Haven't you said it before? Although it has been said, this is only a verbal cover-up, not a discussion of meaning. If it is both general and real, then it must be of the same or different substance as Shapa. If it is a real thing, then it is not necessarily one of them. Saying this is only because you yourself do not admit that the tree is general, and there is no meaning in it. Especially in the examination of distinguishing others, 'The real thing separated from non-tree, if it is Shapa, it is not other trees, if it is other trees, it is not Shapa' etc., this kind of verse has no effect at all. Taking the real thing separated from non-tree as the subject, it must be of the same or different substance as Shapa, because it is a real thing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, this argument is in accordance with the meaning expounded in that treatise. If this refutation is presented with a tree as the subject (chos can, a thing possessing a specific quality), then a self-contradiction will arise. You yourself will also fall into the three fallacies ('khor gsum, the three aspects of an argument: subject, reason, example) of contradictory commitments. So, with the tree as the subject, are you and Shapa (sha pa, tree sap) the same entity or different entities? You are a different entity from Shapa because you are born from different causes and conditions than Shapa. Examining the contradiction of pervasion (khyab pa, universal rule): You once said that being born from different causes and conditions is the characteristic of different entities, which directly contradicts your statement. If this is not established, it is because you and Shapa do not have a common material cause. If this is not established, then this subject, you are born from the same material cause as Shapa. If this is not established, it is because of this reason. If you admit it, then you and Shapa are the same entity. Because you admit it. You once said that being born from the same causes and conditions is the characteristic of the same entity, please carefully consider whether this meets the three aspects. The second fundamental argument is established because valid cognition (tshad ma, means of knowing) is not necessarily limited to direct perception (mngon rjes, direct cognition) and inference (rjes dpag, inferential cognition). Because there exists a third type of valid cognition that is neither direct perception nor inference, because if it is valid cognition, it must belong to one of these two, this pervasion is not established. The third is giving key teachings: So, do you think that all previous faults can be avoided? We cannot avoid these faults because we believe that these faults are directed at the previous claim of a single entity (rdzas gcig, single entity) that is clear in general (spyi, universal) and indivisible (cha med, indivisible), rather than just a single entity that is clear in general. If you think so, then you must admit that trees and Shapa are either the same entity or different entities, because the faults raised against other opponents will also be turned against oneself. Here, the term 'indivisible single entity' is not just a disguise, it is actually what it means. If only a single entity needs to be born and die simultaneously, etc., then there is no pure answer to the previously raised faults. Therefore, the key to grasp is: If combined with the good sayings of the 'Three Hundred Thousand Verses' ('bum phrag gsum pa, Prajnaparamita Sutra), then the term 'same entity' needs to be divided into four types: The same entity of existence with the same basis, the same entity of constituent parts, the indivisible same entity, the same entity of nature. The first example is: Shapa and the tree are the same entity, because Shapa is part of the tree's entity, so it is only admitting that Shapa and the tree are the same entity. Therefore, for this same entity, there is no need to be born and die simultaneously. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
