Question: What is the nature of the object of the sense-fields (skye mched, Skt: āyatana, six or twelve sources)? Answer: It is considered to be the object of the nature of the sense-fields, not the object of the nature of matter (rdzas), so there is no fault. Thus it is said. The meaning of this is: the previous fault will not arise, because for 'generality' (spyi), there is also the distinction between 'aggregate generality' (tshogs spyi) and 'sound-meaning generality' (sgra don gyi spyi); for 'own-character' (rang mtshan), there is also the distinction between 'sense-field own-character' (skye mched rang mtshan) and 'matter own-character' (rdzas rang mtshan), etc. If one can distinguish them one by one, it is easy to eliminate faults. In short, if we summarize the key points, there is no fault of 'consciousness' (dbang shes) falling into conceptualization (rtog pa) and not being the object of its own nature, because even if it is the object of aggregate generality, it is not the domain of sound-meaning generality; even if it is not the object of matter own-character, it is the object of sense-field own-character. Then, one might ask, what is the key to the latter reason (rtags)? The matter own-character distinguished from the sense-field own-character and matter own-character is the indivisible atom (rdul phra rab); while the sense-field own-character is established as the ten colored sense-fields. The five consciousnesses such as eye consciousness, as the subject (chos can), you are the object of your respective sense-field own-character, because you each take the corresponding form, etc., as your respective objects, and cannot take form, sound, etc., as mixed objects. As the subject, you are not the object of indivisible material particles, because they cannot impart form to you. This meaning is the view of the venerable Dharmakīrti (chos grags), as it is said: 'Without other particles, there is no difference in particles. Since consciousness is not fixed on one, it is said to be the object of generality.' And: 'The sense-organs and their objects are not particles.' If someone says that the meaning of that treatise is only to show that the individual particles when particles are aggregated are the objects apprehended by consciousness, and that indivisible, isolated particles are not the objects apprehended, then this precisely accomplishes my view, because the particle distinguished from the particle and the gross (rags pa) must be established as the indivisible particle, and the so-called 'accumulated atoms' (bsags rdul phra rab) and 'differentiated atoms' (rdul phran khyad par can), etc., even if given the name of particle, are only gross, not the nature of a particle. Its key must also be explained, because if there are wise people, then they must generate special conviction. So, how to explain it? Form, name, time, boundary, particle, and letter, minute instant and particle, and likewise, iron, water, rabbit, sheep, and ox. དབང་ཤེས་རྟོག་པར་ཐལ་བ་དང་། (Tibetan) དབང་ཤེས་རྟོག་པར་ཐལ་བ་དང་། (Sanskrit Devanagari) (Sanskrit Romanization) (Literal Chinese Meaning) Sensory consciousness falls into concept Seed Syllable: Mantra: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the statement 'sunbeam dust and wool, and that which arises from that, and likewise, knuckle sevenfold,' the extremely subtle particle that is named as the ultimate limit of matter is not a subtle particle that is distinguished by dividing coarse and subtle particles, but rather an aggregate particle, or the ultimate limit of coarse matter. Because the extremely subtle particle at that time is also said to necessarily contain eight substances. As it is said in the commentary on the Abhidharmakośa: 'The most subtle form of all is called the aggregate subtle particle, and there is nothing smaller than that. In the desire realm, if it is without sound and without sense faculties, then it is born with eight substances, and it is not the case that it is born without any one of them.' This point is also the view of Jamyang Sakya himself. In the 'Self-Commentary' it says: 'The object of apprehension is coarse, the intention is close, there is no cause for confusion, and if the object is suitable, others can also see it. Just as the object of sense consciousness is an extremely subtle particle, but because it does not appear, it is not considered an object.' Therefore, although the objects of apprehension are formed from the aggregation of indivisible particles, the particles cannot produce an image, so they are not considered objects of apprehension. Establishing the View of Cittamātra Second, establishing the view of Cittamātra is divided into three parts: refuting the views of others, establishing one's own Cittamātra, and eliminating the debates of others. The first part is divided into three points: establishing selflessness by negating external objects, establishing selflessness by negating appearances, and refuting the views of worldly conventions. The first point is: not only is there no self of persons, but external objects are also subjects, and are not truly existent, because they are devoid of either a truly existent single entity or a truly existent plurality. The second point is: not only are there no external objects, but the objects that appear to sense consciousness as external are also subjects, and are not truly existent, because they are devoid of either a truly existent single entity or a truly existent plurality. Therefore, when first negating external objects, one realizes that there are no external objects that are substances other than the nature of the consciousness that appears to oneself, thereby explaining the view of emptiness of the otherness of the apprehended and the apprehender, or the view of realizing that all appearances are the nature of mind. This is known as the view of Cittamātra. In reality, the apprehended in this system is called the view of realizing the selflessness of phenomena. When the forbearance of the Mahāyāna path of accumulation arises, a clear appearance that is consistent with meaning arises. After that... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
