Regarding faith, it speaks of characteristics together and completely excludes those that do not possess them. This is what is said. Furthermore, if someone says 'Only sound can be heard,' then the dharma aspect of this statement is: what you have definitively grasped is a phrase that directly applies 'excluding others,' because it is a phrase that is directly applied. This is because the characteristic of 'being audible' excludes other things that are 'not sound' and indicates that only sound possesses this characteristic. This is because 'being audible' implies 'being sound.' So, if relying on this statement, 'being audible' implies 'being sound,' what is the reason for this? The reason is that saying 'Only sound can be heard' implies that the characteristic of 'being audible' must be established on the basis of 'sound.' Therefore, in explaining this, the words and phrases of the dharma differ, speaking of characteristics together and completely excluding other things. This is what is said. Additionally, if someone says 'Only blue is possible for a lotus born from the sea,' then the dharma aspect of this statement is: what is definitively grasped is a phrase that directly applies 'impossible to exist,' because it is a phrase that is directly applied. This is because the characteristic of 'being blue' excludes the 'impossible to exist' situation for a lotus born from the sea and indicates only 'possible to exist.' Therefore, in explaining this, the words and phrases of the dharma differ, speaking of actions together and completely excluding 'impossible to exist.' This is what is said. Second, explaining the three exclusions that do not directly apply determination. First, briefly explain through definition, then explain in detail through classification, establish on the basis, and summarize the main points through argumentation. First, explain: Even if not applied, its meaning can be understood from the intention of expression, because speech is the result of exclusion. This is what is said. If it is combined with words, then to understand the meaning of the three exclusions separately, is it necessary to directly apply determination? No, even if determination is not directly applied, the meaning of the three exclusions can be understood from the intention of expression. What is the reason for this? Because speech is the result of any of the three exclusions, which is the cause. Therefore, the dharma aspect of an exclusion phrase that does not directly apply 'only' is: the definition of an exclusion phrase that does not directly apply determination, because it is the basis of the definition. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus it was taught, and from this arose the phrase, 'Though not combined, yet from the intention of speech.' Second, explaining in detail from the perspective of classification: A word of exclusion that does not directly combine with a qualifier, in terms of its characteristic, you have three types: like 'black one is quick-hipped.' A word of exclusion that does not directly combine with a qualifier and is non-possessive; Among 'black one' and 'that which establishes,' like 'that which establishes is quick-hipped,' is a word of exclusion that is possessive of another; if asked whether a 'lotus' has 'blue,' and the answer is 'yes,' this is a word of exclusion of non-existence. Because there are these three types. Thus it was taught, and from this arose the phrase, 'For example, a black one is quick-hipped, or like that which establishes is quick-hipped, or like blue becomes a lotus.' Third, establishing on the basis: When asked whether a 'black one' is quick-hipped or not, the word 'black one is quick-hipped,' in terms of its characteristic, is a word of exclusion that does not directly combine with a qualifier and is non-possessive, because any word that does not directly combine with a qualifier, its characteristic 'quick-hipped,' excludes non-possession from the characteristic base 'black one,' and only shows its possession, because this is a word that shows 'if it is a black one, then it is pervasively quick-hipped.' Thus it was taught, and from this arose the phrase, 'Though not combined, yet from the intention of speech, that meaning itself will be understood, like a black one is quick-hipped.' Furthermore, among 'black one' and 'that which establishes,' the word 'that which establishes is quick-hipped,' in terms of its characteristic, is a word of exclusion that does not directly combine with a qualifier and is possessive of another, because any word that does not directly combine with it, its characteristic 'quick-hipped,' excludes possession by 'black one' from among the characteristic bases 'black one' and 'that which establishes,' and only shows possession by 'that which establishes,' because among these two, if it is 'quick-hipped,' then it is pervasively 'that which establishes.' Thus it was taught, and from this arose the phrase, 'Though not combined, yet from the intention of speech, that meaning itself will be understood, like that which establishes is quick-hipped.' Third, when asked whether a 'lotus' has 'blue,' the word 'lotus has blue,' in terms of its characteristic, is a word of exclusion of non-existence that does not directly combine with a qualifier, because any word, its characteristic 'blue,' excludes non-existence from the characteristic base 'lotus,' and only shows its existence, because if it is a lotus, although it is not pervasively blue, but a lotus --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
