It is very important to know the distinctions. For example, "Kaḥ is Brahma, wind, sun, and lord. The neuter Kaṃ is head and water." Just as the sound of 'ka' alone is marked as masculine and neuter, and thus has different meanings, similarly, even for a single sound form, the gender distinction transforms the meaning. Furthermore, if the neuter or feminine ending is added to something like pṛkṣa, which only has a masculine ending and never takes any other form, it would be like covering a woman with a woolen cloth, and scholars would find it astonishing. Therefore, for the sake of those who are just beginning, and to ensure they have some certainty, this is a brief compilation of similar types from the Amarakosha, the commentary Kamadhenu, the Dictionary of Words, and the Gender Collection by Chokse. For more details, one should consult those texts, as well as the Supranta Rinjung and others. Moreover, in the commentary 'Desire-Fulfilling,' it is said that there are six types of genders: pure, mixed, dense, closely associated, universally applicable, and unclear. The cause of combining one is joy: khaṭvā, pṛkṣa, kuṇḍaṃ, feminine, masculine, and neuter. The cause of combining two is close association, which is mixed: marīciḥ, ūrmiḥ, ā..., chardiḥ, kapāṭa. The cause of combining three is close union, which is dense: taṭī, taṭāḥ, taṭaṃ, śṛṅkhalaḥ, śiṅkhalāḥ, śṛṅkhaṃ. The form that distinguishes by closely associating the cause of the distinguishing sound is closely associated: śuklā, śuklaḥ, śuklaṃ, paṭvī, paṭuḥ, paṭu. That which is necessarily suitable for combining even in the distinction itself is universally applicable: pañca, ṣaṭra, prakṛtiḥ, viṣayaḥ, pradhānaṃ, bhāryā, dārāḥ, kalatraṃ. That which is not suitable for combining sounds with gender characteristics is unclear: pañca, ṣaṭra, kati, uccaiḥ, yūyaṃ, vayaṃ. It is said so. It is said. It should be known that the sounds of words, such as nouns, which are the basis for distinguishing those genders, are gathered into four types. According to Ācārya Vararuci of the Mishra lineage, those sounds are of four types: sounds of class, sounds of quality, sounds of action, and sounds of state. Among these, the sounds of class are: gauḥ, aśvaḥ, puruṣaḥ, hastī, śakuniḥ, brāhmaṇaḥ, and so on.
