As stated by the teacher Anubuti: 'Whatever is not touched by the agent, only the sign of existence of a thing, the single meaning of the word, is manifestly called a thing.' Thus, it is not the meaning of the six agents such as the second, but the single meaning of the word. For example, like the word meaning 'Shudra sleeps,' even if it is modified by an ending, it does not indicate anything other than 'sleeping,' such as 'being slept' or 'sleeper.' Like sleeping, it must exist in the knowable, only expressing the thing itself, here it is called the sign of a thing. If it is influenced by an ending, then possessive words such as 'of' are used. If it is combined with endings that do not have a future tense, then it is only the thing itself; if it is combined with other words with endings, then it becomes a thing and an action, that is, the meaning of an action. Or, for words that are not combined with any endings and only exist as the basis for the occurrence of an action, it is also called a thing. The remaining six cases except for the sixth case, namely agent, object, instrument, for the sake of, source, and location, are called agents. When the first case is applied to the said object, etc., it should also be understood as the meaning of the agent. Thus, the wise Righteous Life said: 'Because it arises, it is an action. Because it accomplishes, it is an agent. Things that are produced and that produce are relations. The meaning of the word that combines the result is called a cause in the world.' Arising, existing, completely changing, increasing, decreasing, and completely decaying are actions. The agent, the object, the basis, the one who gives completely, and the one who takes back are agents. Etc. have been clearly explained. Secondly, regarding the object, as stated in the Samantabhadra Tantra: 'When thinking, knowing, seeing, and hearing, eating and sexual intercourse, doing, selling, holding, and stealing, giving, offering, desire, and touch, smoking, praising, greed, and patience, nurturing, thinking, walking, stopping, etc., speaking, killing, etc., know as action by saying.' Thus, any word that is related to actions such as thinking, knowing, seeing, and hearing, the object of that action is the second case, the accusative case.
