The great accomplished one still resides there. This is a brief account of the Shangpa Kagyu tradition. The Sakya lineage descends from the five generations of divine lineage, starting from Jamyang's emanation, Yuring, up to Yapa Kyé. Due to a dispute over a needle, they reconciled with a yaksha, and a son named Khön was born, thus the name of the Khön family was established. Khön Könchok Gyalpo first founded Gangsa Monastery, and his son Sachen Kunga Nyingpo established the Sakya Dharma College in Latö Sakya, hence the name Sakyapa became famous. They were knowledgeable like an ocean of sutras and tantras, and especially received the unique transmission of the Path and Fruit teachings, the oral instructions of the great accomplished Virupa. His son, Jetsun Sonam Tsemo, departed to the realm of the Dakinis without abandoning his physical body. His younger brother, Drakpa Gyaltsen, became a great Vajra Master. His nephew, Jetsun Sakya Pandita, and Drogön Chögyal Phagpa were great spiritual friends of the entire doctrine, and their biographies are famous throughout Tibet and China. These five are called the "Five Forefathers." Their descendants, Palden Sonam Gyaltsen and Tekchen Chöjé Kunga Tashi, these seven are known as the Seven Emanations of Manjushri prophesied by the Great Orgyen. Drogön Chöphag was offered the three regions of Tibet by the Mongolian Emperor in exchange for a one-night empowerment, thus their political and economic power became unparalleled. The lineage of this family still exists today. From the Sakya Palden Lama's lineage, different branches emerged, and later the Ngor, Gong, and Tsar traditions arose. Among them, Kunga Namgyal Pal Sangpo, a disciple of Drakthokpa Sonam Zangpo, propagated Gangkar Dorje Den, thus the Gongkar tradition arose. Ngorchen Dorje Chang Kunga Zangpo, the root disciple of Sharchen Yeshe Gyaltsen, established the seat of Ngor Evam Chöden. The successive abbots, rich in scholarship, discipline, and virtue, were known as Ngorpa. In general, Kunga the two were skilled in tantra, Yakrong the two were skilled in sutra, and Goshe the two were skilled in both, and from those great beings who upheld the tradition of teachings, the tradition of glorious Sakya and Ngor flourished. Khyentse Wangchuk, the upholder of the teachings of Tsarchen Losal Gyatso, a disciple of Dorong Kunpang Chenpo.

From the time of Mangthö Lüdrup and others, the Charpa (ཚར་པ་) school emerged as a separate religious tradition. Many extraordinary great beings such as Je Kagyurwa (རྗེ་བཀའ་འགྱུར་བ་) and Nesawa (གནས་གསར་བ་) appeared. Even now, there are those who hold the seat of Yarlung (ཡར་ལུང་). Also, from Zhongchungpa (རྫོང་ཆུང་པ་), the tradition of the Lamdré (ལམ་འབྲས་, Path with Result) Tsokshé (ཚོགས་བཤད་, collected explanations) branched out, known as Zhongpa (རྫོང་པ). Having fully enjoyed the heart essence of the fifty-four great accomplished masters of the sacred land of India, and having gone to the state of great accomplishment, Jetsun Dampa Sangye (དམ་པ་སངས་རྒྱས་) came to Tibet five times. The second time was Zhangzhung Lingkhawa (ཞང་ཞུང་གླིང་ཁ་བ་) and Khotsang Bonpo Druk Lha (ཁྲོ་ཚང་བོན་པོ་འབྲུག་ལྷ). The fourth time was Ma So Kam Sum The fifth time was in the east Dampa Chakchen (དམ་པ་ཕྱག་ཆེན), in the south Dorje Trodha (རྡོ་རྗེ་ཀྲོ་དྷ), in the west Dampa Charchung (དམ་པ་ཕྱར་ཆུང་), and in the north Dampa Kunga (དམ་པ་ཀུན་དགའ), known as the four yogis of the four doors. The main essence of the instructions they upheld, the essential points of the sacred Dharma that pacifies suffering, and the lineage that greatly benefits beings through the teachings of dependent arising, are known as the three traditions of Shijé (ཞི་བྱེད་, Pacification of Suffering): early, later, and intermediate. Dingri Künpang Chenpo (དིང་རི་ཀུན་སྤང་ཆེན་པོ་) and others also held the lineage of these instructions, which continues to this day. Furthermore, Dampa of India gave the sacred Dharma Chö Yül (གཅོད་ཡུལ་, Severance) of demons to the Kyotön Künshe (སྐྱོ་སྟོན་སྐུ་མཆེད་) brothers. Kyö Sönam Lama (སྐྱོ་བསོད་ནམས་བླ་མ) gave the male Chö (ཕོ་གཅོད་) to Machik (མ་གཅིག་). Machik Labdrön (མ་གཅིག་ལབ་ཀྱི་སྒྲོན་མ་), an emanation of the Great Mother, is in reality Vajrayogini, the actual mother who gives birth to all Buddhas, but merely in conventional appearance, she demonstrated the manner of generating realization and attaining accomplishment from the Prajnaparamita, and thus propagated the Chö teachings, which is known as female Chö (མོ་གཅོད་). Among the descendants of Machik were her sons Gyalwa Döndrup (རྒྱལ་བ་དོན་གྲུབ་), Tönyön Samdrub (ཐོད་སྨྱོན་བསམ་འགྲུབ), and her Dharma son Kyemé Gayan (སྐྱེ་མེད་དགའ་ཡན་), four sons, four daughters, and eight disciples equal to herself. From their lineage, benefit for beings as vast as space arose. In order to subdue the flesh-eating rakshasa Drakla Drön (ཤ་ཟའི་ཕྲ་མན་ལྕོག་ལ་སྒྲོན་), Machik herself transformed into Dul Dorje Drönma (འདུལ་རྡོ་རྗེ་སྒྲོན་མ) and took the Chö texts hidden in the molds for tsatsas from the treasure, which became known as Terchö (གཏེར་གཅོད་, Treasure Chö). Later, Gyaltang Samten Özer (རྒྱལ་ཐང་བསམ་གཏན་འོད་ཟེར་) personally gave the instructions, forming the separate system of Gyaltang Chö (གཅོད་རྒྱལ་ཐང་). Drungpa Ripa, father and son (དྲུང་པ་རི་པ་ཡབ་སྲས་), and others are lineages who received the oral transmission.
