Place it in a state of no object of focus. The fifth mind-holding is: one's own mind, any place whatsoever, a place that one has previously traveled to, gradually go to that place along the path. When you arrive at that place, think of gradually going back along the path again, arriving at the seat where you are staying. Do this repeatedly, and finally relax and place it in a state of no object of focus. Like this, relying on those with objects of focus, when various kinds of states of mind arise, then abide without fabrication in a way that has no object of focus. It is neither tightening the mind intentionally, nor intentionally loosening it, but abiding loosely without fabrication. Then, when seeing, hearing, etc., occur with respect to any external objects such as forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, etc., for example, when the eye sees a form, do not deny its appearance, nor analyze it, but relax and abide without fabrication on top of it. Then, not only looking at external objects, but whatever arises in the mind, such as happiness, suffering, appearances of objects, etc., do not let the appearance disappear even a little, but abide loosely without fabrication on it. Like this, whatever thought arises, by abiding without fabrication on it, it will naturally dissolve and subside. Second, introducing, there are eight aspects of introducing. The first is introducing the nature of mind as luminosity: when one examines and analyzes one's own mind with one's own mind, because there is no color, shape, or place, it is beyond grasping, but it is merely clear awareness, being in the experience of self-knowing, this is naturally luminous. Introducing in this way is the first aspect of introducing. The second is: the various kinds of thoughts that arise in the mind, each previous moment ceases, and each later moment arises, and since they disappear as soon as they arise, the defilements are temporary. Introducing in this way is the second aspect of introducing. The third is: these various appearances of external objects, and these various thoughts that arise in the mind, because they appear as the nature of not being examined or analyzed, one cannot say that they do not exist; and because they are not established as the nature of this and that, one cannot say that they exist, but they are beyond both existence and non-existence. This own mind, when searched for in any place, inside or outside, cannot be found, and because it is beyond grasping, one cannot say that it exists.

Therefore, since it is merely aware as clear awareness and is in a state of being experienced, it cannot be said to be non-existent either; it transcends both existence and non-existence. Since all dharmas are not one, it transcends being. For example, the vase in front is actually non-existent. The bulging belly and the shrunken bottom are also actually non-existent. These two are not one, therefore the bulging belly is not necessarily the vase. The vase is actually non-existent, and the pillar is also non-existent, merely conceptually constructed. These two are also not different, therefore the vase is not necessarily the pillar. Thus, it is free from all elaborations such as existence and non-existence, being and non-being. This introduction is the third part of the introduction. The fourth is: When a state of physical and mental bliss arises during the practice of meditation, this is merely the bliss of experience, not the ultimate bliss. Therefore, do not cling to it, nor reject it. Similarly, if emptiness or other similar experiences arise, this is not the emptiness of reality, but the experience of emptiness. Therefore, do not cling to it. Similarly, if clear and lucid awareness, purified channels, and other similar experiences arise, this is the clarity of experience, not the clarity of reality. Therefore, do not cling to it, and do not reject whatever arises. This is introducing without clinging to the value of experience, and it is the fourth part of the introduction. The fifth is: This mind cannot be identified anywhere, and it is in a state of being free from all elaborations; this is the Dharmakaya. Although it cannot be identified, it appears in various forms; this is the Rupakaya. Thus, the nature of mind itself has been abiding in the essence of the two Kayas from the very beginning. This introduction is the fifth part of the introduction. The sixth is: This nature of mind is unchanging in all stages of the base, path, and fruition. For example, just as there is no difference between the mind of the previous moment and the mind of the next moment. This introduction is the sixth part of the introduction. The seventh is: Just as there is no difference between the mind when conceptual thoughts arise and the mind when conceptual thoughts do not arise, similarly, when seeing forms and when not seeing forms, when standing and when sitting, in short, the actions of the body, speech
