Having tamed the mindstream with the preliminary thought of impermanence, one's own mind shines like a white ball of light. Transfer it with a snap into the heart of the kind guru. Bless me to travel unimpeded in the sky-faring realm. From this time forth, until I reach the heart of enlightenment, I and all sentient beings as vast as the sky, take refuge in the glorious, holy lama. I take refuge in the perfectly complete Buddhas, the Bhagavat. I take refuge in the holy Dharma. I take refuge in the noble Sangha. Recite one hundred or twenty-one times, etc. For the sake of all sentient beings, may I attain the state of perfect and complete Buddhahood. For that purpose, I will practice the profound path of the transference of consciousness. Three times. If desired, meditate on the four immeasurables, beginning with "May all sentient beings have happiness," etc. Recite the words once. The preliminary practice of confessing sins: In the sky in front of oneself, on a jeweled throne supported by lions, on a lotus and moon seat, sits the Bhagavan Shakya King, his body the color of refined gold, his right hand touching the earth, his left hand in the gesture of meditation, surrounded by seven white Buddhas, making the supreme gesture of enlightenment. To the east are seven blue Buddhas, their right hands touching the earth, their left hands in the gesture of meditation. To the south are seven yellow Buddhas, their right hands offering, their left hands in the gesture of meditation. To the west are seven red Buddhas, in the gesture of meditation. To the north are seven green Buddhas, their right hands granting refuge, their left hands in the gesture of meditation. All are adorned with marks and signs, wearing the three types of robes, and seated in the vajra posture. Around them are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

The assembly of inconceivable Bodhisattvas, abiding densely like a mass of clouds, is the power of the support. In front of them, I and all limitless sentient beings abide, generating strong remorse for the sins committed in the past, which is the power of destroying the manifest. From now on, even if it costs my life, I will never commit sinful deeds, which is the power of relying on the antidote. After acting in this way, thinking that it will surely be purified, is the power of restoring what has been lost, confessing through the gate of possessing the four powers. May all sentient beings constantly take refuge in the Lama! Take refuge in the Buddha! And so on, reciting three times each in the first session of practice every morning, and three times each in the subsequent sessions. If unable to do so, recite it once. Then recite the actions of the body, etc., from beginningless time, etc., the three vows, etc., the five heinous crimes, etc., prostrations, etc., as usual. In the main practice: In the sky in front of oneself, on a precious throne of lotus and moon cushion supported by lions, the kind root Lama, the glorious Vajradhara, whose body color is blue like sapphire, with one face and two arms, holding a vajra and bell crossed at the heart. The hair is tied in a topknot, the crown knot tied up, with the remaining part slightly hanging down like willow branches. Adorned with silk robes and precious ornaments, endowed with auspicious signs. Seated in the vajra posture. His mind is the Buddha, his speech is the Dharma, his body is the Sangha, his qualities are the wealth deities, his activity is the Dharma protectors, being the essence of all objects of refuge. From one's navel to the crown of the head, the central channel is empty, like a medium-sized reed stalk, straight like a tree trunk. Bright like a sesame oil lamp. Thin like the fibers of a lotus. Red like the juice of madder, that is, the crown aperture at the top of the head, possessing the four qualities, is open. Inside it, the white element obtained from the father is the mandala of the moon, and the red element obtained from the mother is the mandala of the sun, on top of something the size of a split pea. The essence of one's own consciousness, a white, shimmering ball of light about the size of a medium-sized pea, flickers as if blown by the wind. The supreme one is the essence of all Buddhas. The mind knows.
