The reason for saying "Ma" is that it is not based on wind. When the movement of wind ceases, the conceptual thoughts that cause the mind to wander in objects will also cease. 11. The second is without support, divided into three aspects: sudden cutting, letting be, and the key to abiding. First, sudden cutting: When meditating in this way, if conceptual thoughts arise that follow the mind's pursuit of objects, control them with the thought of not allowing them to continue, not allowing a single conceptual thought to arise, and abruptly cut off the sudden conceptual thoughts and continue to meditate. 12. By continuing to meditate in this way, conceptual thoughts will increase, and eventually, one conceptual thought will arise after another, as if there is no end. This is like recognizing conceptual thoughts as recognizing an enemy, or like the initial state of abiding is like water flowing down a steep mountain. Although the mind only abides for each moment, thus knowing the arising and ceasing of conceptual thoughts, it is not that conceptual thoughts arise continuously, so it is not a matter of the amount of conceptual thoughts, but that conceptual thoughts arise in one moment and disappear in the next, which is their nature. 13. Second, letting be: After that, just let the conceptual thoughts develop on their own, neither controlling nor suppressing them. Place your own mind in the position of an observer, and then meditate. 14 In this way, conceptual thoughts will not spread, but will abide single-pointedly in tranquility. After that, you will again fall into conceptual thoughts and so on. Meditating as before, the duration of abiding will become longer and longer, which is like the intermediate state of abiding is like a slowly flowing stream. The key to relaxing and abiding in this way is to distinguish the clarity and turbidity of the mind. As the teaching says: If the mind is not fabricated, it is happy; if the water is not turbid, it is clear. And the yogi's instruction: If you abide without fabrication like butter, realization will appear; if you continue like a river, everything will appear; completely abandon the target and signs, yogi, always maintain equality. And as Saraha said: If these two ways of meditating are bound, they will try to wander in all directions; if released, they will remain stable and unmoving. I understand this to be like an inverted camel. 15 The third is the key to abiding.

Of the four key points: Abiding like a Brahmin spinning thread means that just as spinning thread requires a balance of tightness and looseness, so too does meditation. If it is too tight, one will fall into conceptualization; if it is too loose, one will fall into laziness, so one must balance tightness and looseness. That is, in the initial stage, one should first tighten with a sudden and fierce method, and then when one feels bored or anything arises, one should not artificially relax. Alternating in this way, considering when one can naturally reach a state of balanced tightness and looseness. Therefore, tightening and loosening the mind, it is said to abide like a Brahmin spinning thread. 16. Abiding like cutting a Sogpon grass rope means that all previous antidotes are thought to be the arising of conceptualization, and it is thought that they need to be abandoned, just like that. Because the antidote will not come until conceptualization ceases. Therefore, the so-called "subsequent recollection" is a stain on meditation. Therefore, abandoning such recollection, naturally abiding in the continuity of calm abiding, that is, letting the mind be free from fabrication and effort, like cutting a Sogpon grass rope. 17. Abiding like a child looking at a temple means that the elephant of the mind is firmly grasped by the pillar of recollection, and the wind naturally subsides. Because of this, no matter what experiences arise, such as empty forms like smoke, or fainting from happiness, or non-conceptualization, not feeling the body and mind, like dwelling in empty space, etc., one should not regard them as good or bad, and one should not deliberately cling to them or prevent the arising of phenomena. Phenomena are not prevented, and one does not cling to them, abiding like a child looking at a temple. 18. Abiding like an elephant being pricked by thorns means that enlightenment arises in the moment of abiding, and the recollection of recognition arises simultaneously. Abandonment and antidote meet face to face, and conceptualization cannot pass from one to two. There is no need to cultivate the antidote through effort, but naturally, recollection grasps it, which is called: not affirming or negating the arising and feeling of conceptualization, this is the meaning of abiding like an elephant being pricked by thorns. To this, it is called the final abiding is like the ocean without waves. At that time, one recognizes the nature of movement in the moment of abiding, and grasps the self-ground of abiding in the moment of movement, therefore it is called the arm straightening between abiding and movement, that is, encountering the self-nature of focus. At that time, one who can recognize abiding and movement
