The Tenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. The Great Seal of Co-emergent Union according to the Tradition of Dharma Lord Drukpa. The Tenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. The Great Seal of Co-emergent Union according to the Tradition of Dharma Lord Drukpa. The Great Seal of Co-emergent Union according to the Tradition of Dharma Lord Drukpa resides herein. || Homage to the precious Kagyu lineage! Here, in order to explain the instructions on the Great Seal of Co-emergent Union, which introduces the ordinary stream of consciousness into pristine awareness, there are three parts: preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion. First, the preliminaries are twofold: common and uncommon. The common ones are explained elsewhere. The uncommon preliminaries are those that precede from refuge and bodhicitta to guru yoga. As it is said in the Manifest Enlightenment of the All-Seeing One: "Body straightened, vajra posture performed. Mind one-pointed, the great seal." According to these words, the legs are in the vajra posture, the hands are in the mudra of equipoise placed below the navel. The spine is straightened, the chest is opened. The neck is bent like a hook, with the chin slightly tucked in. The tongue is placed against the palate. In general, awareness is transformed by the senses, but especially by the eyes. Therefore, the eyes do not blink or move, but gaze straight ahead at a distance of about a yoke's length, which is called the seven dharmas of Vairochana. From the perspective of function, it is also called the five dharmas of meditation. That is, the lotus posture eliminates downward-moving energy, the mudra of equipoise balances fire energy, straightening the spine and opening the chest balances pervasive energy, bending the neck balances upward-moving energy, and placing the tongue against the palate and the gaze cause life-sustaining energy to enter the central channel. When these five enter the central channel, all karmic energies enter the central channel, and non-conceptual wisdom arises, which is called body isolation, or the body not moving, or the body abiding in its natural state. Abandoning coarse breath and ceasing speech is called speech isolation, or speech not moving, or speech abiding in its natural state. Do not dwell on the past. Do not think about the future. Do not deliberately fabricate meditation. Do not even view emptiness as non-existent. Now, whatever appears to the objects of the five senses, do not make discriminating judgments of "this is this, this is not that," but turn inward and abide relaxed like a small child.
