In the first bardo, there is the instruction to attain enlightenment in the bardo of becoming. In the bardo of karmic habits of samsara, the second bardo, there is the instruction to attain enlightenment. In the bardo of similar womb origins, there is the instruction to attain enlightenment in the next life. The first case is: within three and a half days after death, one becomes as if intoxicated by alcohol or struck by a plague. After that, memory awakens, and upon seeing relatives and friends, one knows that one has died. At this time, a feeling arises that one is wandering in the bardo. The experience is unpleasant, and consciousness has no support, making it impossible to stay. No matter where one goes, no one recognizes them, and something like the dawn's faint light of the self-radiance of appearance and darkness arises. At that time, due to the power of karma, one goes to all the other places of the six realms, including the four continents, feeling extremely tired and exhausted, and experiencing suffering such as sadness and thirst. The executioners, such as the Yama of karma, do not let go no matter where one goes, causing harm and torment. In this time of suffering, seeking refuge, one remembers the yidam previously practiced, and the habitual karma awakens, transforming into the sambhogakaya like a fish leaping from water, and is therefore called the bardo sambhogakaya. However, this is not a case of presuming to be a sambhogakaya when one is not, but rather because the bardo body possesses the seven qualities of the sambhogakaya: without obscuration, the mind body appears without substance; possessing the vibrant colors of youth; with the five kinds of clairvoyance, completely knowing all the elements and latent tendencies of one's own and others' continuums; except for Vajrasana, blessed objects, and the mother's womb, one can travel anywhere without obstruction due to the power of miraculous abilities; radiating hundreds of millions of rays of light, creating the opportunity to illuminate all directions; possessing unfailing dharani, able to remember past and future lives; and the body is adorned with marks and signs, etc., and accompanied by a fathom of light. Furthermore, the purity and impurity of the bardo sambhogakaya depend on the degree of familiarity. However, there is no bardo being that does not have the opportunity to progress upwards. Walking in the state of sambhogakaya like this is because one has practiced the generation stage samadhi in this life, meditating on appearance without inherent existence, so in the bardo period, like a child in its mother's lap, the yidam is a friend, adorned perfectly.

Or one may attain the form of the Sambhogakaya, or go to the realm of the Vidyadharas who travel in the sky. Secondly, concerning the Bardo of Cyclic Existence, the teaching on attaining Buddhahood in the seventh week is as follows: If one cannot remain stable in the generation stage as described above, and if one is not comfortable with the awareness wandering without support, then due to the force of clinging to the body, ignorance binds the root of the three winds, and lies dormant in habitual patterns. From this, one takes the mental body, and acquires a portion obtained from ignorance, giving rise to seven thoughts born from delusion. From acquisition, proliferation arises, giving rise to thirty-three thoughts born from hatred. From proliferation, the aspect of appearance arises, giving rise to forty thoughts born from desire. There, eighty thoughts born from the root of the three poisons arise equally, and thus, that mental body becomes entangled in the bonds of the five obscurations, falling into delusion, reverting to the previous state of mental appearances. At that time, there is the habitual imprint of meditation, and if one has the instructions of the Bardo, one should engage in the practice of blocking the womb-door. At that time, since there are thoughts born from the three poisons, the appearance of attachment and aversion arises, and the union of parents occurs. When consciousness is driven by the winds of karma and enters the womb, like a fish leaping in water, one should meditate on the illusory aspect of the generation stage. Afterwards, by meditating on luminosity through the dissolution stage, one will be well blocked. If one is not blocked, one should contemplate the Guru as the union of father and mother, and request accomplishments. If one is blocked by this, it is the reversal of attachment and aversion. Thinking, "I have done this before and wandered in samsara, and if I do it again now, I will wander again, so I should not do it," one is blocked by merely thinking this. Furthermore, one should meditate on the ordinary mental body as the deity body, the deity body as the illusory body, the illusory body as luminosity, and luminosity as union. By meditating in this way, one will be liberated from the womb after forty-nine days. If the first week is blocked, then by meditating as before, one will be liberated effortlessly. That which can be trained is the union of learning, and that which cannot be trained is the union of non-learning. Likewise, blocking existence is also done by introducing death as a messenger into the path in this life, or by viewing attachment as a fault, so that in the Bardo period, one pursues meaning like a fearless man.
