Profound Instructions on Cutting Through the Path of Bardo Introduction from the Oral Transmission of Chakrasamvara. Jetsun Milarepa. Profound Instructions on Cutting Through the Path of Bardo Introduction from the Oral Transmission of Chakrasamvara. Jetsun Milarepa. Herein reside the Profound Instructions on Cutting Through the Path of Bardo Introduction from the Oral Transmission of Chakrasamvara. Namo Guru Deva Dakini. Homage to the Guru, Deva, and Dakini.) Cutting through the path from the mind, the instructions for introducing the bardo have three aspects: the bardo of the basis of having a body, the bardo of the signs of definite understanding, and the bardo of the fruit of introduction. The first has three aspects: In the bardo of appearance, birth, and death, one possesses a body of flesh and blood of karmic maturation. From birth until death, if one lives long, it is for an eon; if short, one dies immediately after birth, which is called the bardo of birth and death. At that time, practice the generation and completion stages of the path, and union. Second, in the bardo of dream imprints, one possesses a body of dream imprints. From falling asleep until waking up, if long, it is for an eon; if short, one wakes up immediately, which is called the bardo of dream. At that time, practice dream and clear light. Third, in the bardo of the dark appearance of existence, one possesses a mind-made body. From one's own death until taking rebirth, if long, it is for an eon; if short, one takes a body immediately, which is called the bardo of existence. Mix and practice the illusory body and clear light in union. Second, the bardo of the signs of definite understanding has three aspects. The first is: An inferior individual, having trained the continuum with vows, and having meditated on the instructions of the bardo, the sign of attaining Buddhahood in the bardo is the ability to increase and practice dreams in this life. The outer sign is that appearances manifest as dreams and illusions. Second, a middling individual, having trained the continuum through meditation, the sign of attaining Buddhahood at the time of death is the arising of the generation and completion stages in dreams. One masters the clear light of sleep. The inner sign is gaining mastery over the channels, winds, and bindus. Third, a superior individual, having understood the meaning, liberation is the sign of attaining Buddhahood in this life, realizing the inseparability of samsara and nirvana. One masters the union of the two truths. The secret sign is that afflictions manifest as wisdom. Furthermore, the clear light of the nature of the Dharmakaya, with all elaboration pacified, appears as the exhaustion of the veils of ignorance. Through familiarity with compassion, the Sambhogakaya, adorned with marks and signs, appears teaching the Dharma to bodhisattvas abiding on the ground. Through pure aspiration, the Nirmanakaya; and through impurity, the six realms.

That appearances arise. Third, there are three bardos of the fruit of introduction: the bardo of the three faculties, the bardo of the three times and three types, and the bardo of mixing paths. The superior faculty is the bardo of birth and death, the intermediate faculty is the bardo of sending and receiving, and the inferior faculty is the bardo of connection. The first has three: the bardo of prior and posterior knowledge of birth and death, the bardo of prior and posterior dream memory, and the bardo of clinging to existence. The first has two: the bardo of example that introduces, and the bardo of meaning that is introduced. First, identifying the bardo of example that introduces: by symbolizing with the example of the sky, from the meaning, it shows the bardo of dharmata. There are five aspects of the sky: the appearance of the sky, the blue of the sky when the clouds have cleared, and the sky with various colors transformed by the clouds, but it is not the sky of dharmata. The shape of the sky, such as when it appears in caves and windows. The name of the sky, given to male and female. The ornament of the sky, adorned with the threads of Bonpos, these are not the sky of dharmata. So, what symbolizes it? In the middle of winter, the sun rises on the top of the mountain in the early morning until it warms up, a clear and transparent state will appear in this intermediate space. At that time, all six types of beings naturally abide in dharmata, through the interdependence of the three times. For the superior faculty, it appears within three hours, for the intermediate faculty within two hours, and for the inferior faculty within one hour. Because this instruction is missing, it cannot be recognized. Furthermore, when the summer rain suppresses the dust, the clouds and fog clear, and the winter storms have not risen, a naturally pure sky appears. At that time, it is neither appearing nor not appearing, not attached to any basis, color, shape, and size cannot be established, the bardo of dharmata is symbolized by example. Taking the example of the sky to practice dharmata is the oral instruction. Second, the bardo of the meaning of introduction: from all the sutras and tantras, it is said that all sentient beings have the essence of the Buddha, but because the nature is hidden, this entity has not appeared. The accomplished ones also say: the mind should be regarded as like the sky, and all dharmas are like the realm of the sky. But the definite understanding that this is the Buddha has not appeared. Therefore, it is not grasping the Buddha's intention, the bardo of dharmata.
