For beings, there is the suffering of eating each other, killing, and exploitation. For humans, there is the suffering of seeking desires and not finding them, and the suffering of the unwanted falling upon them. For the Asuras, there is the suffering of fighting and bodies being cut and torn apart, and so on. For the gods, there is the suffering of death and transmigration, falling from higher to lower realms, and knowing that they will eventually be born in the lower realms, it is said that there is mental suffering even greater than the physical suffering of hell. So, should one attain the Bodhi of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha in order to liberate oneself alone from those sufferings? The Bodhi of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha does not perfect the qualities of abandonment and realization for one's own benefit, and great activities for the benefit of others do not arise. In the end, it takes a long time to attain Buddhahood, so it is not the fruit to be sought by those with intelligence. So, what should be sought? One should attain the state of complete enlightenment of a Buddha, who, with great wisdom, does not abide in the extreme of Samsara, thus transcending the suffering of the three realms, and with great compassion, does not abide in the extreme of Nirvana, thus the benefit of sentient beings is continuous, and who attains the all-knowing Buddha state without abiding in Nirvana. Moreover, this is not for the benefit of oneself alone, just as the sky has no limit, sentient beings have no limit. Each and every limitless sentient being has been my parent, and has protected me from all harm and bestowed immeasurable benefits, and is entirely kind. These beings desire happiness, but due to lack of skill in means, some enjoy actual suffering, and some enjoy the great non-virtue that is the cause of suffering, are deluded by the cataract of ignorance, separated from the staff of reliance on liberation, not grasped by the corner of the eye of a spiritual friend, stumbling on the path of higher realms and liberation, and wandering on the precipice of the three lower realms, you should feel compassion for these beings. It is not helpful to just have compassion, one must liberate these beings from suffering and place them in happiness. I do not have that power now, and neither do Brahma, Indra, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and so on, who are superior to me. Who has it? Only the fully enlightened Buddha has it. Therefore, I will
