我将进行伟大的坛城灌顶。关于获得灌顶的利益，一般来说，对于根器上等的人，灌顶之后立即解脱；对于根器非上等的人，如果经常修习灌顶，即使不修其他道，也将在七世之内成就殊胜的悉地。据说，如果获得灌顶后不犯根本堕罪，将在十六世之内成就。据说，对于那些无法通过灌顶解脱的人，灌顶也是使他们成为能够指示解脱道的法器的方法。因此，灌顶是金刚乘道的根本。灌顶可以消除多生累劫的罪业，一切悉地都依赖于灌顶而生。因此，对于接受作为一切功德之源的灌顶，要非常欢喜。像这样确定获得灌顶的利益之后，没有获得具有利益的灌顶的过患是：如果即使没有获得灌顶也努力修道，是否会获得果呢？不是这样的，这不是佛所说的。即使没有获得灌顶而讲解续部，或者修习生圆次第的意义，也不会获得悉地。即使可能会获得一些世间的微小悉地，但据说死后会堕入恶趣。因此，想要依靠金刚乘道来成办自他利益的智者们，必须对灌顶非常恭敬。像这样，对于获得有利益、没有获得有过患的灌顶，由谁来给予呢？上师的特征简而言之：通晓密咒、续部和口诀，精通仪轨事业，以慈悲摄受弟子，是灌顶的上师。必须具备如上所说的特征。接受灌顶的弟子的特征是：以信心和慈悲调伏自心，少分别念，具有智慧，寻求殊胜密咒道，应当依止具足和合及数量的弟子。按照惯例，具有如上所说特征的弟子，从一到二十五人不等。因此，必须确定上师和弟子的特征。

I shall perform the great mandala empowerment. Regarding the benefits of receiving empowerment in general, for individuals with the sharpest faculties, they will be liberated immediately after the empowerment. For individuals who are not the highest, if they constantly familiarize themselves with the empowerment, even without practicing other paths, it is said that they will achieve supreme accomplishment within seven lifetimes. It is said that if one receives empowerment and does not become defiled by the root downfalls, one will achieve accomplishment within sixteen lifetimes. Furthermore, it is said that for those who cannot be liberated by empowerment, empowerment is also the method to make them suitable vessels for showing the path of liberation. Therefore, empowerment is established as the root of the Vajrayana path. Because empowerment purifies the sins of many lifetimes, and all siddhis arise dependent on empowerment, be very joyful in receiving the empowerment that is the source of all qualities. Having thus ascertained the benefits of receiving empowerment, the faults of not receiving such a beneficial empowerment are: If one strives on the path even without receiving empowerment, one might wonder whether one will attain the result. This is not what the Buddha has said. Even if one explains the tantras without receiving empowerment, or meditates on the meaning of the generation and completion stages, one will not attain siddhis. Even if one might attain some small worldly siddhis, it is said that one will go to the lower realms in the future. Therefore, those intelligent ones who wish to accomplish the benefit of themselves and others by relying on the Vajrayana path must be very respectful of empowerment. Thus, regarding who bestows the empowerment that has benefits if received and faults if not received, the qualities of the teacher are, in brief: Knowing mantras, tantras, and instructions, being very skilled in ritual activities, holding disciples with compassion, is the supreme teacher of empowerment. It is absolutely necessary to have one who possesses the qualities as stated above. The qualities of the disciple to whom empowerment is given are: Subduing the mind with faith and compassion, having few conceptual thoughts and possessing intelligence, seeking the supreme meaning of the mantra path, one should take on disciples who are harmonious and complete in number. According to custom, disciples who possess the qualities as stated above are taken from one to twenty-five in number. Therefore, it is necessary to ascertain the qualities of the teacher and the disciple.
