It must be born from the earth. However, merely seeing these as arising from causes and conditions such as parents, one clings to them as real. This clinging is merely an illusion arising from beginningless habitual tendencies. Thinking that there is not even a moment of true establishment, one should decisively cut off this thought. Pray for refuge and cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment from the depths of one's heart. May I attain Buddhahood for the sake of all sentient beings who have been my mothers. For this purpose, I must cut off the root of samsara, the clinging to the aggregates as real in my own mindstream, right now. Thinking in this way, place your mind on the above-mentioned view of decisive cutting off. First, strive to cut off the thoughts of clinging to reality. Second, relax and loosen your mind in the view, following all clinging with the gate of natural liberation. Finally, alternate or maintain your own state, and in a state where the mindfulness of the view is not lost, be amazed and suddenly let go. When you have gained confidence in this way, as Aryadeva said, "The emptiness of one is the emptiness of all, the seer of one is the seer of all." In this way, all phenomena easily turn into the unreal. Compassion arises involuntarily for sentient beings who have not realized this. One will suddenly understand all the key points of the Dharma. This view is the view that reaches "In the middle, I then prevent" and Shantideva's saying, "From the force of habituating to emptiness, the habit of things is prevented." For those with sharp faculties, the second view may arise suddenly after practicing the first view. If shamatha has arisen before, then one can unite shamatha and vipashyana. If it has not arisen, then even here, on the basis of grasping the key points of the view, grasp the essence of shamatha, and thus generate the view of the union of shamatha and vipashyana in the mindstream. Second, cutting off the proliferation of the unreal: Having generated the view of realizing the unreal in the mindstream in this way, one has already become a great Madhyamika. Although there is no need to cut off the evil views of permanence and annihilation in his mindstream, as Nagarjuna said, "Actions and afflictions arise from discrimination, these all arise from proliferation, proliferation is eliminated by emptiness." Actions and afflictions arise from the discriminating mind of clinging to reality, and that clinging to reality also arises from proliferation or grasping at characteristics.

Because of the crucial point that it must be cut off, it is neither existent nor nonexistent, nor both existent and nonexistent. It is liberated from the four extremes. Only the Madhyamika understands this. And finally, it is said, "Completely reversing the basis of views." Therefore, when meditating on it, if you think that it is enough to merely cut off the proliferation of true clinging in order to attain omniscience, that is not enough. After establishing that all phenomena are without true existence, it is also necessary to cut off the aspect of clinging to the characteristic of thinking, "It is without true existence." The key point is that after proving that all phenomena are without true existence, it is not necessary to negate that all phenomena are without true existence. If you negate it, you will be harmed by the reasoning in the Refutation of Disputes: "If you refute the absence of inherent existence, then inherent existence will be well established." Therefore, although it is not necessary to negate it from the perspective of the object, from the perspective of the subject, it is necessary to negate the clinging that clings to "It is without true existence," because the reality of the object is not the object of experience for the mind of clinging to characteristics and dualistic appearance. Because the mind with characteristics cannot grasp anything in the four extremes of existence and non-existence, it is said, "Ultimate reality is not the object of the mind; the mind is considered conventional truth." This is also the key point. Therefore, to meditate on this key point, the preliminary practices such as refuge and supplication are as before. From the key point of dependent origination, generate certainty in the view of realizing that all phenomena are without true existence. After gaining certainty, do not continuously maintain that certainty, but abandon the clinging that thinks, "It is without true existence." Completely cut off the thought that the emptiness of the object cannot be grasped in any of the categories of existence and non-existence, because it is not the object of experience for any dualistic mind. Without obscuring ignorance with the proliferation of objects, without corrupting it with the defilement of the mind, abandon all clinging, characteristics, and proliferation, and remain in a state of non-clinging. The methods of maintaining discipline, relaxation, etc., are as before. This view is the attainment of the ease of the view of Shantideva, who said, "Having become accustomed to everything being non-existent, that too should later be abandoned." However, if you do not understand this key point, it seems ridiculous to say that it is the view of Heshang. Therefore, the saying, "If there is clinging, it is not the view," should be applied to true clinging in the first stage of the view and to clinging to characteristics in the second stage. Abandon the one-sided, blind practice of Dharma.
