Alas! Easy to associate with virtuous friends! Meditate on the three lower realms of beings who suffer greatly. Meditate on the pitiable people, and the extremely sinful ones who are happy in this life but immediately go to hell after death. After becoming proficient in that, meditate on enemies and demons, etc., who cause harm and are difficult to bear. Then, meditate on all sentient beings. My parents unwillingly experience various sufferings, and moreover, they enjoy the coarse aggregates that are the cause of suffering, these beings are truly pitiable! What should I do? Now, in order to repay their kindness, I will eliminate harm, bring happiness and joy, and thus benefit them, cultivate this unbearable determination. The second is: Alternately train in giving and taking. As it is said, apply these two to the breath and practice. Those parents who have become the object of compassion are directly harmed by suffering, and indirectly harmed by the origin of suffering. I vow to take upon myself all the various sufferings that exist in the mother's continuum, as well as the origin of suffering, karma, and afflictions, and meditate that all these come upon myself. If they come, generate a strong feeling of joy. I vow to give without hesitation my body, possessions, and all the merit and happiness of the three times to my parents and all sentient beings, and meditate that these happinesses are given to others one by one, and if they receive them, generate a strong feeling of joy. In particular, the distinction of clear visualization: As you inhale your breath, gather all the sins, obscurations, and sufferings of all sentient beings into a black mass, enter through the nostrils, and dissolve into your heart, and think that sentient beings are forever separated from sin and suffering. When exhaling, visualize all your happiness and merit, in the form of moonlight, going out from the nostrils in a white light and dissolving into all sentient beings. Think that they immediately attain the state of Buddhahood from this, and also cultivate joy. Like this, apply giving and taking to the breath, and practice this as the main part of a session. Afterwards, also practice with mindfulness whenever you remember. This is the main practice of mind training. As Shantideva said: If one does not exchange one's own happiness for the suffering of others, one will not only not attain Buddhahood, but there will also be no happiness even in samsara. And so on, it is extensively explained.

The practice of retreat is: Three realms, three poisons, three roots of virtue. The so-called three realms are: attachment to pleasant and beneficial things, hatred towards unpleasant and harmful things, and ignorance of not thinking about intermediate things. These three realms constantly produce the three poisons. This should be recognized immediately. For example, when greed arises, think: May all the afflictions of all sentient beings, no matter how much greed there is, gather in me! May all sentient beings possess the root of virtue free from greed! May the fruit of their afflictions be cut off by me, and may they be free from afflictions until they attain Buddhahood! Think like this. Apply the same reasoning to hatred and so on, transforming it into the path, so that the three poisons are transformed into three infinite roots of virtue. "All actions are tamed with words." This means that at all times, recite: May their sins ripen on me, and may all my virtues ripen on them! This is the teaching of the Noble One. And: All benefits and victories are offered to Jowo sentient beings! All losses and failures are taken by me! This is from the sayings of the Kadampa. Also: May all the sins and sufferings of all sentient beings ripen on me, and may all my virtues and happiness ripen on all sentient beings! This is what Gyalse Thogme (རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཐོགས་མེད།) said. Recite any such sentence and pray strongly. "The order of acceptance starts from oneself." This means that in order to be able to take the suffering of others upon oneself, start with oneself, and take all the suffering that will ripen on oneself in the future into one's mind now. After purifying it, then accept the suffering of others. The third is the path: "When the vessel and its contents are filled with sin, transform adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment." It is said. When the wealth of the external world declines, and sentient beings are harmed by cruel people, etc., when filled with the fruits of sin and many sufferings, it is necessary to transform the adverse conditions that befall oneself into the path to enlightenment. There are three types: relying on conventional Bodhicitta, relying on ultimate Bodhicitta, and relying on special actions. The first is: "All faults are attributed to one." It means: one's own body is sick, the mind is suffering, people
